I already own three S&W .44 Mag, so I thought it’s just fitting that I give the big Colt a chance. I bought it end 2018 for $ 1600.- in Switzerland with box and papers, very good condition.

It is very big and heavy indeed, the cylinder looks huge.

I am not a big fan of rubber grips, but original wood ones are like hens’ teeth. Bought a pair of cheap Thai copies but I hate the colour. Oh well ..

Some shooting at 25 m

A couple gun shows ago, I sold my stainless 6" Anaconda (with Colt wood grips) for $2500. Not a bad return on my investment …. paid about $850 back in the early 90's. The man I sold it to flipped it for $3K the very next day.

DrHenley, Yes, the design is identical but all parts are not interchangeable. When I had my Anaconda, I bought a scope mount that clamped on the vent rib. With a 2X scope, it was absolutely amazing how accurate this gun was. My problem … I couldn't shoot more than a dozen rounds without suffering recoil pain …. kind of ruined the moment, if you know what I mean.

I love shooting the Anaconda! My best friend enjoys .44magnum revolvers. He has S&W, Ruger, and Dan Wesson .44's as well as the Anaconda. He always brings one or two whenever we get together to shoot. They are all nice guns, but that Colt is so smooth, solid and accurate. I love my Redhawk and Super Blackhawk, but the Colt is in a different league.

"The biggest screw up of my gun trading life was when I traded off a Anaconda I had $400 bucks in. Six months later Colt stopped making double action revolvers and the price skyrocketed!"

Speaking of such I always regret not buying a 5 inch Anaconda I found for sale in NW Washington some years back. They wanted $850 for it and figured at the time I could turn it for at least double. Now the price is out of sight. I think they only made a couple of hundred 5 inchers.

Love my Anaconda

My '93 Anaconda is the most accurate handgun I own! I have to admit that now in my 70's a full box of mags will leave my wrist a little sore but what a pleasure to shoot. My wife loved it too and could shoot it quite well. I also own an '89 Python and the triggers are great. I own several Ruger wheelguns and they perform well but they can't hold a candle to the old Colts

" It's said to be nicer (DA) than a reworked early one. "

I would tend to agree if comparing out of the box models. I had a Python I had Walt Sherman tune and put in a roller action on the hammer dog or sear or strut (terminology differs across manufacturers). It would reliably fire magnum primers at 6 lb DA and had a less than 3 lb SA. Ayoob did a writeup in American Handgunner in the early 1990's on Sherman's guns. There were several other top tuners that could get low DA and SA pulls, also. It would be interesting to compare apples to apples and see what could be done tune wise to the new Python.

I purchased a 6 inch 45 colt anaconda in 1993 or so. It went up for sale with most of my firearms in the spring of 2009 to help pay for 2 daughters weddings. If I remember correctly I got about 1200 for it. i paid probably 450 or so for it. My anaconda was a very accurate 45 colt with 300 grain swcs. My anaconda loved 300 grain swcs at 1100 feet per second.
