I just saw this on Rugers website, and think it is a great idea.

stuart9534, Yes, an excellent upgrade. My biggest complaint with the 22/45 and other polymer pistols is "fixed grips". The 22/45 grip panels look almost like 1911 panels but I wonder if Ruger made them compatible with 1911 grips or if they are a "proprietary" design. The right grip shown in the photo does not have the divot for the magazine release nor does it have the cutout for the mainspring housing pin like an actual 1911 grip. The left panel on a 1911 grip has a cutout on the top for the plunger tube. It sure would be nice if standard 1911 grips will fit their new "removable grip" design.

I may be looking in the wrong area or maybe I overlooked it altogether but I was searching for an exploded view and parts list. I would love to know what the grip frame and grips cost as an upgrade to my fixed grip 22/45. Otherwise I may just have to buy another whole gun; that would be a pure tragedy!

It hasn't hit the manual yet, but all the other Mark III grip frames are coded as requiring factory installation. See page 36 or so of the Ruger manual and parts list.

The good news is ... unlike the P-guns, the frame is NOT the serial numbered part on a 22/45. So ... maybe Ruger will sell just an unpopulated new frame ????? Maybe one of you 22/45 owners would give Ruger a call and see what they have to say.

I hear you TomC. The standard models I have fired are excellent guns but the grip angle never felt completely comfortable to me. I had the same reservation with the integral grips of 22/45 but got over that fast enough when I starting shooting it. Yet, I like some of the aftermarket grips my cousins have on their standard models and I don’t really care for the feel of the wrap around grips for the 22/45. My P95 has a polymer integral grip frame as well so my 1911 is the only gun I have with interchangeable grips. Having that feature on the 22/45 would be great!

I hope Ruger introduces this feature on all of its polymer frame handguns!

My prayers to Ruger have been answered. The only thing that stopped me from buying a 22/45 a week ago was the grip.
Now, if they'd just make the GP100 5-shot .44 mag I've been praying for.....:D

I wrote Ruger and asked them the scoop on interchangeability of these grips with aftermarket products, and 1911 parts. The response is that they will NOT interchange with 1911 grips, and are specific to this pistol. They will offer two styles, one "thin", and one "thick". If you are hoping for any variety, better pray to the gods of Pachymar and Houge. Hope this helps.
