How many of you guys are No. 1 fans on here? What do ya like about the No.1? What calibers/ models do ya have?

I have a 416 Rigby with a 1-4 X 24 Trijicon on it. I love it. Fun gun to shoot! I will post some pics later today or tomorrow. Cant wait to get more No. 1's to add to my gun collection.

Greetings,

I only have one number one, and it is stainless with the laminated stock, and has iron sights. It is chambered in 416 RCM. Don't think I would qualify as a hard core number one fan. However, I do like my Rugers, and can say I never had a bad one. Can't say the same for some of the other gun companies.

My fave #1? Easy. a 1-S in 218 Bee!

I have 45-70, 375 h&h, 218 bee, and a 45-70 custom from Aspen Gun Works with octagonal barrel. They are all great guns.

I am in love with that firearm! I don't own one, and wish I did, but I'm not really sure why. I mean, after all, it's a single shot. Very quick follow up could be difficult. Yes, I am a very good shot, but stuff happens, and I'd hate to let a wounded animal get away and suffer slow death.
And yet, last week I finally got to hold and operate (unloaded) one of them, and there is just something about it that draws me like a moth to a flame.
So solid, so well balance, a big rifle in a small rifle size. It just cries out to me "buy me!". I do believe one day I will, assuming the worst doesn't happen to our nation and our rights under Obooboo.

I recently purchase one in 25-06. I have always loved the style and the looks of the No 1, but for some strange reason or another I didn't buy one. I think this rifle shows class and it looks distinguished; I don't know if there is anything not to like about the No. 1. I wish I could afford to own more. :)

That is my favorite rifle of all-time. Wish I could afford one now.

The No. 1 is aptly named in my view. It was the first gun to become an object of desire to me when I was a little kid and drooled over the ads for them in my dad's American Rifleman magazines. The No.1-B in .30-'06 was and still is my "Holy Grail" rifle.

I've had four No. 1's -3 of the B version and 1 Tropical. My first was in .270 WCF. My second was in .300 Wby. My third was the Tropical in .375 H&H. Lastly, I've got the 1-B in .30-'06 that I've wanted since childhood.

What I like about them, first and foremost, is the styling. I've spent thrity-one years of my life believing that the No.1 was the classiest production sporting rifle available anywhere. Next is the way they fit me. No other rifle feels as good in my hands from field shooting positions. I like having a 26" barrel with a compact form factor that I'm not wacking against stuff whilst in th field. It is a bit more scabbard friendly than a bolt action in my view, and I'm pretty good at reloading them quick, so I don't miss the magazine capacity they don't have. All of mine have been more than accurate enough for big game hunting, while also easy for me to shoot accurately in the field. I've liked the trigger feel on all four of mine.

There really isn't anything I don't like about the No.1 B or the Tropical version. I've been shooting No.1's since I was 18 and the No.1 is still exactly that to me.

I like the No.1 International. I'm a sucker for mannlicher rifles. I have the 10/22 Mannlicher and wish I had a No.1 International just like the current one offered in 7x57mm to go with it.

What I like about the Ruger No. 1 is the ergonomics compared to a bolt action. I'm a left handed shooter, so the Ruger No. 1 opens up more choices for me. The bolt actions might be a better choice for pure accuracy, but I think that I may be willing to work a bit with No. 1s to be able to enjoy those ergonomics. Secondly, I like the style and looks of the No. 1.

I am a new No. 1 shooter and right now only have No. 1V in. 223. I would like to get some more 1V models and am always scanning various sources for used No. 1V Rifles. One day, I'd like to find an example of the first one that got me interested; the No. 1V in 6mm, but I am always searching for a No. 1V in .220 Swift, maybe another in 223, maybe a .22-250, and even some project guns.

Same for me -the No.1-B fits me as if bespoke.

Where pure mechanical accuracy is concerned, I suppose that's true. I've had three bolt action rifles that shoot tighter 100 yard, five-shot groups than my .30-'06 No.1-B does -a Savage Model 10 Sierra in .243 that grouped in the .425" -.550" range, a Remingnton Model 721 in .270 that would do about the same, and my M-77RL Ultralight in .250 Savage that groups in the .650"-.750" range. But from standing, kneeling, sitting, or prone without a rest, I couldn't shoot any of them nearly as well as I shoot my No.1-B. that groups a little looser from a bench rest. I've had PLENTY of bolt action rifles that weren't as accurate as my No.1 is -Whitworth Mausers, M-77R's and M-77 MKII R's, a Remington Model 700 Mountain Rifle, and so on.

Secondly, I like the style and looks of the No. 1.
The No.1 is the most asthetically pleasing sporting rifle of all time, in my not so humble opinion.

The gunshop here in my hometown has a No.1-V in .220 on consignment and it looks to be a nice piece. If it was a .223, it might not still be in the gunshop. But I'm not going too broke reloading .30-'06, the 1-B I shoot it out of has some weight to it to keep the recoil within plesant tolerance, and I shoot pretty good scores on paper with it, and can hunt anything I want to with it, so I don't need another No.1 nearly as much as I want a 28 gauge Red Label that I also don't really need. ;).
