OK - here's one that's not a Ruger. It's an A. Uberti replica but it has a lot going for it. Real case color frame and hammer with nice color plumes, very lustrous bluing and correct Colt lockwork. This is the "1873 Cattlemen Birdshead" Model 0469, 45 Colt, 3 1/2" barrel.

That's Niiiiice! I always liked the way Uberti melted their grips and backstraps, some of them are fitted so well you can barely feel where the seams are between the metal and the wood, it makes the whole plowhandle feel like it's all one piece. Hold one in your hand, it feels better than any other single action made.

The Uberti is a first class gun and I agree with Doug about the grips I wish Ruger did theirs that way

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Being a non-Ruger gun I wasn't sure what kind of reception it would get here. This is my first Uberti and I thought the fit and finish looked really nice. I could sell all of my guns and buy a real Colt SAA from the late 19th century but then I would be afraid to shoot it. This seems like a better alternative and cost less than a new Ruger New Vaquero and less than a third of what a Colt New Frontier costs.

Removing the cylinder on this one is a minor pain. Instead of a spring loaded base bin release there is a screw on the front of the frame. You have to back out the screw then slide the extractor back to clear the base pin in order to remove the base pin so it feels a bit complicated and takes a tool to remove the cylinder. First time was a bit puzzling and I had to resort to actually looking at the instructions (when all else fails....)

TALO Single Six Convertible Birds Heads

.
Here's some "history" on the two TALO Single Six Convertible birds heads pictured below. (Not my guns.)

The first issued, with the simulated ivory grips, was a run of 450 made available in March 2011. Their MSRP was $600. The actual selling prices were between $450 to $550.

Then, in June 2011 TALO released the "Blackbird". A run of 650 which were identical to the first release except black Micarta grips replaced the ivory. The MSRP remained at $600 and actual prices were in the $500's.

Currently, just 2 years later, these guns when you can find them, are selling up to 2 to 3 times their original selling price. Within the past 2 weeks 2, NIB examples of the Blackbird sold on Gunbroker for the princely sum of $1650 and $1505. The more commonly found prices are in the upper $700's

So, to any of our members who scored one early, when first released, you "done good".

I hope they produce more too and would expect they will. Ruger loves it when Talo or Lipsey's or William's orders a special run of something as they are "sold guns" from Ruger's perspective. And I expect the popularity of these Single Six models has not escaped notice by Talo either. The only hindrance is Ruger's inability to meet demand for all of their products but give both parties enough time and I would bet my money another run of these will happen.

Very cool! No ejector rod - is that just something you have to give up when you go that short?

The long awaited Vaquero returns from Ruger, and they sure know how to fit one out in fine style! They left me the ejector rod to replace with a crescent, but they sure made this owner happy to open the box and find this jewel!
