OM 22 Mag cylinder

Why doesn't the 22 Magnum cylinders have a firing pin groove?

Neither of the two I looked at today had a groove one was made before Ruger used a prefix and the other was made just before the end of three-screws.

Question firing pin groove...OM

the people who could possibly answer that question are now long gone, I asked Walter Howe that years ago,he just said "thats how they did it..." maybe to tell the difference from the magnum ones when they came out in 1959..........obviously they had many issues with "how does one tell them apart, otherwise", till the New models,,,,though the first New models were NOT marked either,,,,,,,they finally did before 1974 so as to tell at a glance what is the "magnum"...heck with no flutes on the Mag cylinders even made a bigger difference...my feeling is any time they can reduce a step in the operation of ( building/making) and it saves time, effort, that is money in their bottom line..................
I do know that all the gun companies had issues with firing pin "hits" ( divots) all across the rear of any given 22 rimfire cylinder, thus the firing pin groove.........NOW, why on the 45 LC?? and not the other centerfires.......hhhhmmm sorry those guys are all gone now

Apparently from what I have found no firing pin groove in the 22 magnum cylinders is to prevent case splitting and ruptures which were a problem with 22 magnums.
