1957 Single Six

I was poking around my favorite LGS today when I spotted this sitting in the corner of one of the display cases so I asked to take a look.
Didn't really need a SS but since when has lack of "need" ever slowed us down? All I noticed was a 3 screw with it's frame going to plum (picture doesn't do it justice).
Lock up and end shake felt good, it hadn't been back to the mothership for the conversion, and what finish loss it has is where you'd expect it to be.
I think it spent much of it's life laying on it's left side as there's some pitting on the cylinder and a few tiny spots on the left side of the frame and barrel.
Grips are replacements from N.C. Ordnance (pondering getting a set of O.E. wood but these are growing on me).
The bonus for me was the higher 5 digit no dash serial number dated it to 1957 so it was well into 50+ year category for a C&R transfer which saved me sales tax, transfer fee, and a trip to my local FFL guy (joys of living on a state border)!

Congratulations on finding a sweet old revolver. It's always a joy to find a classic among all the polymer 9mm's at the LGS.

Good score, john. I'm looking at buying a 1962 SS that looks just like yours, except a bit more bluing wear.

Is that a flat gate or a round gate? I can’t tell from the picture.

It'll be a little while before I get to a range. New England and winter time...

I just love these OM Single-Sixes. Currently, I only have three but at least they are all different. My oldest is a 1955 vintage RSS5 flatgate, fixed sights, 5 1/2" barrel. Next is a early 1958 vintage RSS5 Roundgate, also fixed sights and a 5 1/2" barrel. Last is a 1966 vintage Convertible SC6 "Super" with adjustable sights and a 6 1/2" barrel. They are all in like new condition so I don't shoot them …. but I do fondle them frequently.

Here's my SC6:

Weather was actually decent (35 degrees and cloudy this time of year is considered decent) on a rare day off this past Sunday so I finally got to put some lead down the barrel!
Loading and unloading was a breeze and the trigger felt good. I'm going to have to drift the sight a bit to the right thanks to a cross dominance eye issue. From there I'll just have to use some "Kentucky elevation" as it was shooting 1 1-1/2" low at 10 yards with both Remington Goldens and Mini-Mags.

Very nice find. I wish Nj would allow c and r license holders to receive handguns under it.
