Ruger Wrangler. checked out a couple today ...

My local gun shop had two Wranglers, One black, one silver. The black one has a flat finish and I didn't care for it, the silver one looked real nice. All for all it's a nice little revolver. The the cost reductions are obvious but don't detract in my opinion, the finish, the cylinder does not have click stops, spins both ways (some people like that), cast hammer and trigger. plastic grips, alloy frame. Feel and weight are nice, you don't notice the reduced weight much, cocking the hammer was a bit stiff, trigger was pretty darn good. Overall I liked it, fit and finish was typical Ruger, well done. The price? $189.00 plus tax. The two I saw were on hold, they sold the first day they came in, so I have to wait till they have more in stock, next week I was told. Defiantly well worth the asking price - $201 out the door with CT's 6.35% sales tax.

I've has a Super Single-Six for over 20 years now. It is a great revolver. I am thinking of buying a wrangler for each of my daughters....

Sounds like a great price. Ruger will sell a bunch of them. I'm thinking one of them will be to me!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Good to hear first hand data. Good for Ruger and a good intro to single action for new shooters. I am interested in getting one for our granddaughter and myself.

These remind me of my Colt Frontier Scout, if they turn out to be as accurate as the Scouts at this price it will be a great bargain.

Need to see one in person before buying. Only guns I have not seen in person before buying are the SR1911 CMD's, SR1911 Officer's and New Vaquero.

Yes. Hammer and many internal parts are MIM.

How did you like the sight picture on them?

Nowadays my close-up vision is a little blurry, so I’m sensitive to how the sights are. I can still shoot a single action revolver with fixed sights but I’m losing interest in stainless steel and am beginning to prefer black (blued) sights on a SA revolver. I can see them better.

So, the Wrangler is absolutely a gun I will have to see in-person before I buy. I’m thinking the bronze-colored sights may be particularly hard to see on that cerakote version.

I’d really like them to offer the Wrangler with a slightly longer barrel. A couple more inches gets that front sight further out where it is crisp and clear for me to see.

On another forum, a user reported that he called Ruger and asked about the barrel. He said that they told him that the bore is for .22 WMR, but the frame is unable to withstand the pressure from the magnum load...

I don't doubt the member who posted this, but I do find it odd that the frame wouldn't hold up.

Very nice for the price. I like the silver finish with the blued cylinder.

On the Ruger site, showing the three models, it says in the specs; Single Six pattern grip frame. I'm assuming it's a XR3-RED frame while the New Vaquero is RX3 w/med C-frame. I think I finally have the entire history straight. The cylinder frame is small as the single six, of course understandably so but it's built with the overall appearance of the Vaquero which I certainly favor for this gun. I had originally questioned: Why didn't Ruger put this in with the Vaquero family? A: It's of its own! It's kind of like a hybrid model between the Vaquero and single six due to the grip frame and I like it very much.
