870 Barrels Interchangeability.

Lately I've been thinking about getting a shorter barrel for my trusty old 870 Express. I believe I got her in 1988. I've found the Remington 18" bead site replacement and another by Carlson, 18.5" with blade site. All I'd like to change out is the barrel, there will be no tacticoolification of the old girl, just a barrel swap for a resize. So has anyone done this? Are all 870 barrels the same (interchangeable) or is there anything I need to be careful about?

They're all interchangeable except for the super mag barrels as far as I can tell.....

Do you have a 12 gauge? Is it a magnum or just 2 3/4?

If you have a 12, you can use the 3" magnum extra barrels, but if you stick a 3" magnum barrel on a standard, non-magnum receiver, you are restricted to use 2 3/4" shells, only. However, if memory serves, all expresses used magnum receivers, but you may wish to check with Remington to be sure.

Yep, it's a 12 GA Magnum. The serial has the M suffix. I probably won't use 3" shells with the short barrel anyway. Less burglar/home invader guts on the wall.
