Berretta AL2 - Polychoke?

I picked up a 1970's Berretta AL2 12ga, made in Italy, the other day. While parts aren't exactly easy to source, it was cheap and I haven't owned a shotgun in a while.

The Armslist AD said it was a 28" barrel with a poly-choke and my father in law seems to think poly-chokes are the best thing since sliced bread, so I figured it was good enough for me.....It wasn't until I got it home that I realized that it only measured 25.5" to the end of the poly-choke. The barrel is marked 30" full choke, so I assume they had to cut enough off to achieve cylinder bore before putting the poly-choke on.

I go shoot some sort of clays 2-3 time a year (sometimes sporting clays, sometimes trap, sometimes just fun clays in a field) and "might" do rabbit or pheasant once (thinking about turkey next year).....Is the 25" barrel going to make me regret this? Most of the guys that I bust clays with carry 28-30" O/Us.

Well, the Armslist seller was mistaken at best, but ~26” barrel length isn’t all bad for hunting and sporting clays. Trap shooters generally like longer barrels.

You really can’t compare your shotgun with a receiver to your friends’ break action guns. A 28” barrel break action gun is a relatively short barrel length and short overall gun length.

I’d be more worried about how the gun fits. And also how it patterns.
