mini 14 serial #

Hey everyone, I'm new here so bear with me. I just got a mini 14 ser # 182-07xxx. I looked up the #s and 182 starts at 45xxx. 183 starts at 03xxx. Im not sure if i have a 182 or 183. Does the 07xxx mean it was made later than 45xxx? Do the #s just kinda roll over? Thanks for any help.

faatjack, your 182 is truly a 182!
In your look-ups, note that for each year, it starts with the BEGINNING S/N for that year.
Sunflower Ammo.com: Ruger Mini-14/30 Barrel Twist Rates

If your S/N is lower than the beginning S/N for that year, it was produced the previous year. I experienced that with my 181... The lower the S/N for your 181, the better as the machinery is still generally new.

In the end, it doesn't particularly matter for you: yours is a 182 and is virtually identical to 181s through 186s, with the exception of the barrel twist rate. Yours is 1:10: same as my 181.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the forum!

You must mean that ugly HG that we replace with a Choate. Yep, that one.

I got my 181 in early 1980. It had the fugly HG on it. Can't say it came with it from the factory, but that is what was on it in early 1980. BTW, was in Germany when I got it, from a soldier rotating back to the 'States.
