PCC 9---Midwest Industries

A week or so ago I was persuing a few threads and saw the hand guard from Midwest Industries mentioned. I accessed their web site and it was noted that they would be shipping back orders on 04/25/2019. I ordered the hand guard on the 24th and the mailman just delivered this morning. Free USPS Priority shipping.

A big thumbs up to Midwest Industries for their product. I'm a picky, hard to please guy and this unit is quality.

Included M-Lok picitinny rail. Lok tited the M-Lok and mounted on the guard. Perfect for my Streamlight TLR-1HL. Then installed guard on the rifle. Slides on from the front. One screw mounting the same as the OE handguard. 55 inch pounds recommended torque. Solid and flawless attention to detail. Buy with confidence if you've been on the fence and worried about fit and finish.

Completely down the PCC 9 rabbit hole.

Thanks Bepe.

I do have an original PC9 and I was bummed with Ruger's introduction of the PCC 9mm. But my dismay over the new model was primarily that it eroded the potential resale value of my PC9 should I decide to sell it.

Just had the old PC9 out to the range about two weeks ago and had forgotten how much fun it is to shoot and how accurate it is.

Thanks brother. A quality product and a quality company. I've got to get the QD stock spacer also, as I run a side mount Vickers sling set up on my Mini. Want to keep them similar. I would have ordered the package but didn't notice it until after I had ordered just the guard. This hand guard fills the bill for the sling and light perfectly, plus looks night and day better than the OEM guard.

I know how you feel. I have the SP101 snub, SP 101 3" and Speed Six in 9mm. When Ruger introduced the SP back in 9mm the value of mine plummeted. Oh well. Sometimes owning the older models is just nicer.

Can't wait to get it on later. I'm definitely down the rabbit hole now. Volquartsen just released a upgraded trigger for this gun and i'm having a very hard time not dropping the money right now to get it.

I just landed a near mint Speed Six 9mm and probably overpaid for it. But I really like Ruger's older models; both in terms of style and quality of build.

I wanted to ask you, I noticed on my hand guard that the curve of the hand guard where it meets the receiver doesnt quit line up, causing a lip. is that something you noticed on yours too?

Couple more photos. You can see the lip where the hand guard meets the receiver.

Negative. Mine is pretty much dead nuts on each side. Where it is a two piece assembly I couldn't expect it to be any more even. Not at all like yours. Where one side of yours is even and the other side is off I'd think it is the fore end and not the rifle. Might want to contact Midwest with your pics.

I did, they said they'd send a new one to replace it. I'll update once that happens.

So they were able to get me a new hand guard delivered today. Unfortunately it has the exact same problem. Makes me wonder if it's my gun and not that hand guard. I also noticed that the slot that goes around the rear iron sight doesn't line up straight nor does the slot around the take down lever. I don't know that I would get unlucky and get two bad hand guards but I also don't know what could be wrong with my gun to cause it either.

I'd install the Ruger hand guard and see how it sits. If that is cocked I'd be giving Ruger a call.

So I did this and it is just a little off. Not as noticeable since the hand guard is so much smaller. I'm going to call Ruger Monday. Midwest industries got back to me after I told them the second hand guard was off too with this message.

"Thank you for the reply and thank for for trying the new hand guard. After emailing with you a couple days ago we started checking all the different Ruger PC9 rifles we could get our hands on to see if we could replicate the problem you were having. We we were not able to replicate your issue, but we found a slew of other problems with the Ruger rifles we were not happy with. Everything from the front sight being crooked, the rear sight being crooked, the flat on the bottom of the barrel not being true with the receiver, the receivers being machined out of square, the barrels being crooked in the receivers and some other problems. Unfortunately it sounds like you have one of those rifles.*

We have updated our instructions to make customers aware of the potential problems they may have if they have one of those rifles with the anomalies on it. Below is the additional text that tries to explain it.*

Additional Installation Tips & Instructions
We*have found during dozens of installations that there are variations in the*Ruger*guns. *These variations will in no way effect the function or performance of the Ruger PC carbine. *Please remember this gun is a takedown model so perfect alignment may not*always*be*achieved. *We have found for best alignment,*start by*aligning*the MI handguard with the top edges of the factory plastic stock. *This may take a few attempts and some patience but will produce a very*satisfactory result. *We*have also noticed*some variations in the rear sights*of these rifles. *They are sometimes not installed perfectly straight to the bore. *This can be corrected by removing the peep sight portion and straightening out the base. *Some rifles will also show a left or right cant with the whole barrel assembly when locked into place. *You can see this by looking from the rear of the gun and using the top rail as a reference surface. *Neither the*function of our handguard or the guns performance will*be effected by these slight alignmentvariations*of the factory manufactured firearms.**On a final note if after installing the handguard on your firearms you still have any play please check that the tension adjustment ring is properly adjusted on your rifle.*"

I think I'd have to agree with Midwest. The Ruger hand guard is not going to magnify the misalignment as much as Midwest's hand guard. My Midwest has an ever so slight kick out on the bottom of one side. Run your hand over it and you can feel a slight bump. Nothing as bad as yours and acceptable to me. The design of the take down would not have me expecting machine straight alignment but pictures of your rifle would be a no go.

Hope you can get it worked out.
