Ruger 9e rear sight adjustment

I an unable to adjust the rear sight on my 9e. Even after totally removing the set screw, the sight won't budge. Frankly, with the dovetail design, I expected the sight to move freely to adjust. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

Even with the set screw loose, the fit of the rear sight in the dovetail is usually extremely tight and requires a hammer and punch to move it.

In fact, the rear sight of my SR9c was so tight that even with the set screw removed and the slide clamped firmly in a padded vise, a heavy hammer and brass punch wouldn't move it. I wound up sending the slide to Ruger for removal so I could fit a red dot mounting plate.

A couple of other SR9s did yield to the hammer and punch technique but they both required some real convincing.

A gunsmith with a sight tool to drift the sight would be the best way to move it.
