Ruger Service is Best!!

Have a GP100, stainless 4.2", that I shot the stuffing out of. Well over 5,000 rounds in 5 years. Developed a small split at top of forcing cone, sent it to Ruger for a new barrel. Was expecting to pay $200-$300. Ruger tech called me, said he had to replace barrel, cylinder, cylinder crane, ejector, hammer, hammer spring, and trigger return spring. He quoted me a cost of exactly $0.00! Covered it under warranty even though my abuse of the revolver caused the damage. Got it back yesterday, just about equal to a new gun! I will never, ever say a bad word about Ruger and look forward to buying another Ruger firearm!

Wow, that’s great to hear. Did you shoot factory ammo or handloads, and any particular bullet weight?

That’s awesome. Good to know. I’ve sent newer guns back and they always take care of those free of charge. Seems like there turnaround time is usually pretty good too.

OP, I agree that Ruger's CS is fantastic.

But I don't think 5,000 rounds in 5 years could be considered abuse at all; especially not when talking about a GP.

And the VERY sad thing in today's internet world this positive thread will get far, far less response than the complaint threads.
But thank you for the input.

Good Day,
I am curious also about what loads were shot. The 125 gr. heavy .357 Magnum loads are still a problem because of the velocity at which they hit the forcing cone. You might search the forum, I seem to remember hearing this about another GP-100.
Best,
Rob

I've used Ruger C S on several occasions with great results. Great company to deal with.

When I got this GP100, it was my first .357 magnum.
made the mistake of using Lil Gun powder in loads,
found out later that Lil Gun is NOT a powder for use in revolvers.
Almost all loads were full power (and a little more), mostly 158gr XTP
with a smattering of 140gr and 125gr XTP, and a bunch of HiTek coated
in same weights.
I have no doubts that using Lil Gun started premature forcing cone erosion.
Remember, I said a minimum of 5,000 rounds through this revolver.
Could easily be closer to 10,000.

That's pretty good, considering Ruger has no written warranty.

Thanks John, appreciate the info. It would have been interesting to see the chronographed velocity on those loads.
