Ruger LCR 327. Funtion Test

What if anything can you do to test, check out a used and or new hammerless revolver for function. Lock up, timing, etc.?????
*I have been looking at several Ruger's new and used and I have very limited knowledge on these revolvers. Several people including me have asked outside of actually test fire what can you do to check the safety and function. Most salesman just shrug their shoulders when asked.
*I have a S&W 642 but really want a Ruger in 327, 357 and or a SA 45. Came across a used Ruger model 5452 LCR 327 today. I may wait to get a SA(really what I want) but still need some information on what to look for in a function test for a hammerless.
*Thanks ahead of time and sorry if this a lame question.

Interesting question.

I guess close the cylinder and see if the bolt locks it in place.

Then with an unloaded cylinder or one with snap caps, pull the trigger and check to see if the cylinder stays locked up before you reset the trigger. And look down the bore and see if it is aligned with the cylinder chambers.

I think that is the same for any revolver.

Thanks for the reply and your effort. The salesman could not answer me at both LGS's I looked at for a SA Ruger. Ran into some DA/SA's and just needed some help. When you ask on the forums all of a sudden you hear crickets.
*I will just deal with the Bullet Ranch when I get home. They do not seem to mind answering a newbies questions.
*Anyway I think it is a valid question and I appreciate your help. Have a great day!
