I am not super well versed in the world of the big Ruger magnums, so bear (see what I did there...) with me.
Anyway, I have read about the Toklat (aftermarket from what I gather) Super Redhawks, but while scanning the Ruger website I see a Talo distributor exclusive (#5517) which is, by some, referred to as a Toklat. I just want to get it straight.
So the original Toklat was an aftermarket conversion? And these Talo distributor exclusive (#5517) are Ruger factory made versions of said Toklats? Are they essentially identical or are there differences between the two?
The Toklat is a Ruger factory offering. It always has been. It is a TALO exclusive, meaning dealers can only purchase them from that distributor, but it is still a Ruger factory-built revolver.
Thank you, that clears that up. I take it Ruger has only done this in .454 Casull?
BTW, if you don’t mind me asking, where abouts in Alaska are you? Our kids are in North Pole. We have been many times and I have spent several Winters up their in the field when in the service.

Not sure which one was the chicken and which one was the egg. I've thought about picking up a Super Redhawk in .480 and having WWG cutting and slabbing it to match my .454 Toklat. They are right here in town so they are convenient. They do good work also.
A couple years ago with no knowledge of the 5517, I decided to make a more usable hand cannon. I had a new super redhawk barrel cut to 5 1/2". Warnings were removed and the barrel engraved with a saying. Then it had a freedom arms front sight installed, chambers numbered, action job, and throat checked. I'm currently waiting on the Hogue custom shop for my new micarta grips. It is a .44 magnum. However, with my 330 grain hammerhead ammo, I feel it can do pretty well. I sure wish I could have gotten a 5517. So much trouble and expense would have been avoided.
