Back from the range, Ruger Sp101 2 1/4" - GRIPS

Hi all,

GRIPS: Ruger SP101 Factory grips, and Hogue rubber grip.

I Just got back from the range. I tried my New Hogue rubber grip on , and the factory grip on my Ruger SP101 2 1/4" .357mag. Using Winchester .357mag 110gr and Federal .357mag 158gr. Shooting at 7yds.

I like the feel of both grips, maybe the Hogue a "litte" more. The Hogue rubber grip feels nice, allowing me to get a nice "hold" or grasp on the revolver, before during and after a shot. Because of this, I am more "accurate" using the Hogue rubber grip.

As far as the ability of the grip to absorb felt recoil, the Ruger SP101 factory grip wins in this category. Using .357mag 158gr, the Ruger factory grip absorbs felt recoil, nicely. The Hogue grip transmits more felt recoil to my hand, but it is manageable.

I feel that the gun is more "controllable" using the Hogue grip.

Concerning concealability , the factory grip is shorter, than the Hogue rubber grip. But the Hogue rubber grip tapers to a thinner profile at the end, vs the ruger grip. I don't know.... it's a trade off, LESS concealability VS MORE controllability.

I have the same Ruger as you and same problem too, with the houge grip it does portrude a bit more on my inside the waiste holster (don hume). But I look at it as yes you do give up a little concealability for more control which to me is worth it in a self defense senario. If the bg see's your well armed he might think twice and if he doesnt you have the controllability to make up for the concealability. Just my opinion, great gun tho.
