I have been contemplating getting the hammer bobbed on my SP101, but I keep chickening out.
I love my SP101, it has a Trigger Job, Action Job, it’s been media blasted to matte down the finish and I keep switching between two sets of grips wood and rubber.
I would really hate to get the hammer cut off and hate it, anybody know where I can get a bobbed hammer at?
I tried Ruger already but they won’t sell the Hammer, they want the Revolver back to fit it with a replacement.
I did just email them again though to see if they would fit it with a factory bobbed hammer but without making it DAO.
Let's see what response I get, thanks for the idea.

My guess is they will say no.
In order for you to use the SA feature with a bobbed hammer, you must first start pulling the trigger in DA mode to get a purchase on the top front of the hammer...prone to an AD, and Ruger ain't gonna have that for good reason.
I will trade you my bobbed hammer for your spurred? Is it possible for us to fit them ourselves? I may have to send my 101 to Ruger anyway so I am going to ask them to change my DAO to a spurred DA/SA.
I wonder if you were to remove the hammer and send it to Ruger telling them you "lost" your hammer if they would fit you a spurless hammer. Then you would have both hammers and be able to switch between the two when you wanted.
Only drawback I can think of in sending Ruger my SP101 and telling them I lost the hammer is them sending it back to me the same way with a note saying
“You’re too stupid to be in possession of one of our firearms because you lost the Hammer” with some type of expletive in there for good measure.
That would be my luck.
Gosh, I'd love to see that!!! There must be some really great stories from service depts. concerning the reasons why the gun was sent in. Here's an example of the good old days of the 70's when even lawyers didn't take any guff. Enjoy! An Early Holiday Present from Law Law Land :: Entertainment Law Blog
Well I received a response today from Ruger, they will install a bobbed hammer on my SP101 but it will have to be DAO, I kinda figured it would be that way. Lawer Stuff
Not what I wanted so I’ll keep looking for the solution that fits me.
Below is Ruger’s response incase someone else is interested in having Ruger convert your SP101 to DAO.
Response:
The SP101 can be fitted with a Double action only Hammer .
The approximate cost is $100.00.
We would send back the original hammer.

I would send it to them. If they are going to send you the original hammer back ,you can change it back and forth any time you wont. Your manual tells how to take the gun apart and put it back together. I my self never buy Snub Revolvers with Hammers. I practice in double action. You can become just as accurate in double action as single action by staging the trigger. You learn to pull the trigger and stop just before it breaks. After you stop take your finale sight picture then continue to pull the trigger. Once you get the hang of it you won't have to stop anymore. You will just pull the trigger slow and steady till it breaks. Don't forget "Follow-through". Just like a Golf Club or Baseball Bat swing, Keep your sight on target and trigger pulled for a second or Two after the shot.
