This is my GP100 revolver...

I have rounded-off ALL of the sharp-edges, installed a Tru-Dot front night-sight (stock Ruger rear sight), and installed a (re-shaped, by me) Hogue wood grip.

I LOVE this gun!

If you were to put together, in your opinion, the "perfect" GP100, what components or configurations would you assemble?
I really like the 3" or 4" half-lug with a compact grip (though the 3" could be a full lug). Though a regular 4" like your NRA one is also a fine firearm. If I were going to get a 6", I'd want the adjustable sight half lug model they used to make. No reason to have all that extra lug out there.

Personally, I don't think I'd have a GP100 safe queen, though. It's just a grip insert and "NRA" in the serial number, right? Other than that, it's a plain old 4" adjustable sight GP100. Nothing wrong with that, but they were made for shooting.

They don't make the Royal Phoenix anymore, and only made ~555 of them. That one I could see not carrying, just to preserve the finish, though I'd certainly shoot it if I had one.

I love my GP100 MC, everything about it. I have read tons on what people consider good and bad, but it's all subjective. The only other GP I have ever held was at the store when I was deciding to get the MC or the GP 6inch; I got the MC. Why? Because I think it's a beauty. My decision was solidified when I brought it to the range.

Trigger differences? Who cares? If you are happy with what you have that is all that matters, not what others say. I am not a sharp shooter by any means but I can tell you I have a very sharp looking gun that shoots extremely well and feels great in my hand.

I would not change a thing.

The GC is a nice looking gun. Did you get the fixed rear site or the one that is adjustable?

In my opinion, the GP in Prestige's photo is already "perfect", when I think of a GP100 this is the gun I think of. My .38 Special 1751 GP100 is setup the exact same way, so is my .327 GP100. They just have red insert front sights. This is the "classic" GP100. I also have a few fixed sight GP's with the old standard compact Letts and they are also "perfect" to me.

However, if I had access to any mods I wanted for a GP100......The "perfect" setup, IMO, for a "combat/SHTF" GP100 is a 6" stainless with Meprolight Day/Night 3-dot sights and a Hogue non-Fingergroove grip. IMO this is the "perfect" setup for a gun you're actually going to rely on as an "all purpose" gun. My TALO 6" GP100 is setup in a similar way, exept I have the Mepro's on an older 4" GP100 and I'm not taking them off of that one, and I am waiting for a Bowen "Rough Country" rear sight for the 6" TALO, at which point I am just adding a Mepro front sight to give it a "Glock like" sight picture.

If you want it to be "pretty" than you can get into all the different wood grips, wood inserts etc. but IMO it's not "perfect" for actual functional use if you're also trying to make it look cool.

I have some revolvers that I made "cool" and some just setup for heavy range shooting or defense.

This ^^^^
No reason not to shoot your NRA edition. It will never be a high dollar collector. Items marketed as "collectable" seldom are.
Feel good about helping the cause and shoot that bugger. That is what it was built for.

lotta really nice gp's posted hereabouts and all are nothing short of really good.

it's all fully subjective with regards to want and needs, as well as likes - let those factors be the heavyweights in any firearm acquisition decision.

for me and a gp, that meant a good range and field revolver with an emphasis on accuracy at all distances and that clearly meant the 6" barrel for me. adding a weigand rail and burris ff3 were absolutely mandatory as well. ditto's for my carefully built handloads, and casting my alloy bullets. in terms of the gp's trigger, i have no issues with it and it'll only get better with use. fwiw, the big weigand rail is being replaced with a jprifles custom gp mount.
