Thoughts on buying a new SP101?

Hey all you Ruger fans!

I'm new to this forum and am considering purchasing my first DA revolver. I have done a lot of looking (and drooling) at different revolvers and have ended up at the SP101. I would like your thoughts on carrying a 2 inch sp101. I would also like your input on grips for carry and holsters for OWC.

I would like to point out I'm not new to guns or even DA revolvers I just never "bit the bullet" (pun intended) and purchased one.

Thanks for the input!

I purchased my 2.25" Ruger SP101 in .357 in December 1994 as a Christmas present to myself! In 2009, I lost both of my jobs within five (5) working days of each other and had to sell nearly everything I had (we were down to 3 guns) keeping only our two (2) Ruger SP101's...my .357 and my wife's 2.25" in .38+P...and a shotgun.

When push came to shove and we really had to decide which was 'best' for us...the Ruger SP101's were it!

They're tough, rugged, accurate, will hold up to just about anything you put through them, there's lots of grips to chose from...Badger Custom, Hogue's, Uncle Mikes, Eagle Grips, etc...and three (3) manufacturer's of tritium night sights for it...Meprolight, Trijicon, and XS Sights.

I say...it's well worth it!

Get it ! You will be satisfied ! I have had my 2.25" SP101 .357 Magnum for about 17 or 18years now. It has always served me well. It's one of my "never get rid of guns" and if I had to choose only one gun to keep for CC it would likely be my SP (although my KLCR is running a close second).

There are lighter .357 snubs out there, but there's just something about the SP that just feels substantial and strong. I have fired some powerfully loaded full snort magnums out of mine and it handles them all with ease.

The SP101 is powerful, concealable, accurate, versatile, and durable. Besides all that it just feels good in my hand. Plus........they are just COOL!

I currently carry a 2.25" SP in .357 Mag. It replaced a P.O.S. Charter Arms. Can't possibly be happier, especially since my LGS gave me such a good deal (NIB).

Ask and ye shall receive.

I highly recommend the SP101 for reasons others have posted above. I would add dependability, Ruger's outstanding customer service, and the "coolness factor".

Here ya go, McLintock. 39 Pages of beautiful photos of SP101's. Better get yourself a towel before looking though. To wipe your chin and keep your keyboard dry.

For carry it's pretty good. A bit heavy for 5 shots but you can put all 5 into the same target without much trouble in about 2 seconds.

I love Ruger SP101's personally think that the 3 inch barreled SP101 is just as easy to carry as the 2.25 SP101. Anyway just a great little gun that's built like a tank!!

I've noticed a couple of things while browsing:
1.Rugers have what you might call a cult following.
2. A lot of people have more than one!

I think this says a lot about a product and a company, and I notice this with several of the ruger models. People usually pick their poison and buy multiple models of the same gun. I'm guilty of this as well😁
