Magazine compatibly?

I bought a new (to me) stock for my Ruger American. My old stock is the kind that fits the rotary mag and the new stock seems to be the kind that takes AR style mags Do I just need a new magazine or do I need to do anything to the rifle to use the newer mags?

No, the Americans shipped with rotary mags will not readily accept AR-15 mags.

The bottom metal is different, and the stock inlet. I have heard of different user-solutions, anywhere from selling the rifle to buy a new version which already accepts AR mags, buying a new version stock and bottom metal from Ruger, buying bottom metal only and modifying the factory original stock, or buying aftermarket replacement stock and bottom metal options like the MDT LSS chassis.

The RAR is so inexpensive that getting another stock just to get AR mag compatibility can cost as much or more than just getting another RAR with AR mag stock.

I've been reading that stock compatibility can be tricky. Some may need physical work to fit. Others just seem to use AICS patterned mags.

I kept my rotary mag version of 300BLK and got an AR mag version. Have a few rotary mags, some of which needed fixing, but now work just fine. If I hunted, that's one I would use. Also good if I need to take to a state that has magazine limits.

Thanks for the reply- sorry to be unclear.

I have a compact model with the rotary mag.

I wanted a regular sized stock with the rotary mag- I accidentally bought a regular sized stock that takes AR mags.

I would still like to get a regular stock with the rotary mag, don't need the other two.

I'm knew enough I can't post in classifieds but I'm in no rush and can try gb and other forums.

Thanks again for the info- should have asked first!!
