Another 10/22 drum mag issue

Having purchased an aftermarket stock for my 10/22, I have been plagued with the usual problem of not having the magazines (drum and banana) not releasing (by the mag release lever) without yanking them out because of a too-tight fit. I have begun "shaving" (sanding) the insides of the mag well, however, wonder if I can go too far. Does the gun "upper" mechanism hold-in the mag, or do the mag well sides hold it in place? Hope this is clear.

When you say "mag well sides" are you including the cut out in the bottom of the stock itself? If so, the stock plays no role in magazine retention. The magazines lock into the receiver bottom. Magazines usually hang up because the cut out in the stock is a little too small, but there can also be some "flashing" on the polymer magazines themselves. If so, trim any excess flashing off the magazines first. Then sand the stock cut out as needed.

i have a GSG 110-round drum - it is tight, tight, tight, but that's a good thing... i would never mess around with the rifle - if anything, mess around with the mag - it's cheaper... JMHO, YMMV...

btw, my 10/22 and Chargers cycle Winchester M-22s and Rem Subsonics through the drum with aplomb

(hey, that ryhmes!)

Both of my rifles still have the factory stock. But I do have one of the older mwg drums that when I got it was super tight going in and required a good bit of force to get out. About 10 minutes slowly removing material from the magazine and constantly test fitting to make sure I didn't go too far fixed the problem.

because you can? (at least where i live)... and yes, the BX mags are best for reliabilty...

but the 110-round mag is a lot of fun... saves on mag changes and offers good reliability - more so than the BX-25s in my experience - when loaded with the right rimfire (non-waxy bullets)

Don't make it too loose , once you remove material ...it's gone .
Put factory stock back on and check magazine fit/release ...then compare stocks and if too tight remove some of the stock ...not any of the rifle material .
The heavier clips require a tight fit to stay in place ...gravity pulls them down and too much material removed and you get a sloppy wobbly fit...Be Careful Removing Material !

I bought a 110 GSG a few months ago for my much-tricked-out Charger. An Archangel M4 stock, a red dot + rail-mount laser, Magpul fixed sights, front slant grip and single-point sling for it. Ridiculous but very fun to shoot. The stock was way too tight around the GSG mag. The mag fit fine in my stock 10-22 TD and my 10-22 with an ATI stock. Took plastic out of the Archangel with coarse files and fine sanding blocks until I carved a mag well for it. Snaps right in now, tight but smooth. All my other Ruger magazines, 10's, 15's, and 25's, still work the same, and everything locks tight and ejects. 110 rounds so annoys people at the local public range that they move away from me :D

We just wanted to annoy you.

Seriously though, 3 of the participants have very low post counts. It's possible that they haven't been socialized into the unwritten rules of the forum, so they were unaware that they've done something unacceptable.

Don't worry about the other newbies who had the same question. Now they know not to ask.
