Lasermax Laser must be zeroed after cleaning

The Lasermax laser that replaces the stock barrel band has to be zeroed every time that I remove it to disassemble and clean the gun. I suppose it makes sense, but it seems like it should mount in the same place if I am careful to push it all the way back until it stops and I tighten the mounting screw so it is very snug. Has anyone found any tricks to avoid this?

Is it elevation or windage that needs adjustment? How far is it off? Perhaps you can make alignment marks with a pencil to see if you can re-align the band to the stock after cleaning?

I have one on my Takedown which eliminates the issue. I also have one on another 10/22 rifle that does need removal for cleaning as yours is...however I rarely use that rifle because I like the Takedown so much more.

Do you use the laser for indoor or outdoor shooting?

As long as I have some light I use a red dot on my 10/22..haven’t needed to rely on a laser but like having it.

Maybe the issue of realigning every time after disassembling to clean is why Ruger/Lasermax discontinued the product?

Both elevation and windage require adjustment. It is not very far off. I have a scope on the rifle and I can use it to re-zero the laser. I shoot mostly indoor but I occasionally go to an outdoor range so I can shoot at greater distances. I have left a message on the Lasermax website and I am waiting to hear back from them.

Update

I got a response to my question about a trick to get it to mount in the same position after cleaning: "Sorry, there is not."

Thanks for the update from LaserMax. The product just doesnít work well enough without a 22 Takedown Barrel/Handguard....or it would have stayed available from Ruger IMHO.

I plan to do some retesting for accuracy after removing the TD barrel and see if POI changes.

Unfortunately without positive clicks on the E x W adjustments itís a PITA to know how to make small adjustments.

The actual laser dot looks pretty wide to me. Maybe the battery is too fresh?

Waiting for sun set now to retest.

Oh yea...the on/off switch needs a lock-off mod!

Bent chamber brush, bore snake, use Hornady one shot dry lube to reduce major cleaning that requires disassembly.

CmdrCody will become famous soon enough
I guess my only buying it for my takedown model was the way to go.

There’s another way to clean the barrel without removing it...and keep the LaserMax zeroed:

Brownells or Midway has the jig for around $50.
