Questions regarding 10/22

Hello, all. I had a few questions about shooting my Ruger 10/22. So, I'll start off with the first one.

What targets would be best suited for 50 yard shooting with this rifle using stock iron sights? I'm going to try 4" circles and see where that goes, but otherwise I'm not sure what to use.

What point of aim should I be using with the stock sights? Six o'clock hold or cover the target with the front bead?

That's about it, thank you for any help you can provide, it is greatly appreciated!

Mo, good questions.

Any target that you would find entertaining and useful for your marksmanship goals. That could be an official NRA bullseye target, of which there are several here: Small Bore Rifle Targets - American Target Company. Or silhouettes - you can find paper targets of official rimfire silhouettes to practice on. We do an event for Boy Scouts every Fall in which they shoot eggs and lollipops at 50 yards. If you want to shoot your standard 10/22 competitively, the CMP sponsors a rapidly growing competition, with a national championship, here: Rimfire Sporter | Civilian Marksmanship Program and you can get their official targets.

What point of aim should I be using with the stock sights? Six o'clock hold or cover the target with the front bead?

Your Ruger Instruction Manual shows a 6:00 hold for the stock leaf sight. You would want to use that for bullseye targets since the bead gets lost in the black on a center hold. Keep in mind that if you use targets with different size bullseyes, you will have to adjust the sight for the different distance from the edge of the black to the x-ring. Adjusting the leaf sight is not an exercise in precision. The CMP target has a white center to facilitate a center hold.

That's about it, thank you for any help you can provide, it is greatly appreciated!
