Getting receiver/trigger housing refinished?

If this has been discussed before, please provide me with a link.

Has anyone ever got their stock receiver refinished or re coated? My 10/22 is from 1983 so the original finish was chipping. I took it to a local plating/coating/anodizing place to get stripped and a get a new hard coat on it. The shop called back the next day and said there is too much magnesium in the material, and that they cannot do anything with it. I called other multiple shops and explained what they said about the magnesium and everybody said theres nothing they can do.

What are my options here? Thanks in advance

I do not know about a 10/22, but I had a Marlin Older Model 60 flaking. I used high heat gloss black engine paint and it turned out great. Took a wire brush on a drill to strip old finish off. Looked like new when I was done.

Just an idea, I picked it up from the Marlin Forum.

Actually, i did sandblast the parts and I used the same paint you did and I also baked them to attempt to harden the paint. Let them cure a couple days. and first time using it, chipped around the bolt opening. Thats why I came on here to look for a more permanent reliable finish.

After some time spent google-ing just now, seems like my only options are spray on products. I am kind of bummed. thanks for the reply though

You might want to look into powder coat finishes. They are much more durable than most solvent or water based finishes. The process applies the powder electrostaticly, it is then baked to fuse the finish. You should be able to find a powder coat shop locally.

Good luck with your project.
