With more than 7 million produced during the past half century, the Ruger 10/22 has firmly established itself as one of the most successful sporting arms of all time.

...it was clear that Bill Ruger not only knew what he liked in firearms but that he had an uncanny knack for knowing what the general public would take to as well. He also had a flair for hiring the brightest engineers in the business. The firm he had co-founded 15 years earlier with Alexander McCormick Sturm had already enjoyed runaway success with other designs, including their first—an equally reliable and economical semi-automatic rimfire pistol—and single-action revolvers. And even though each of those guns was different, their success was predicated on the consistent application of innovative design and efficient manufacturing.

Ive got 4 and would be lost without at least one. I started with a Marlin 60, but soon made the switch to the 10/22. That was 30 years ago. I dont have that first 10/2, but I do have the second one I bought. Its 25 years old, and has shot thousands of rounds, and killed hundreds of groundhogs. They fear my 10/22

When people ask me about 10/22s, here's what I tell them (compared to other 22 rifles): "They aren't the prettiest, not the highest quality, not the best trigger pull, and certainly aren't the most accurate, but they are the most customizable rifle in the world and are just a hoot to shoot."

I have been around for 70 years and can remember when the 10/22 came out I have owned 5 and still have 4 . I also have a Kidd in .22lr and a magnum research in .22 mag. which are a copies of the 10/22. With so many built and so many venders supplying custom parts. It may still being built 50 years from now,if it is I want a 100th anniversary model. It is the 1911 of rifles.

It's the 1911 of rifles - I like that!

Every time I bring it to the range a bunch of guys come over to talk about their 10/22's. And soon everyone is friends and talking about that little rifle. It's the only gun that does that.

It's not the prettiest or the fanciest but it seems like everybody loves shooting them. ( Well, almost everyone - some of the gun snobs don't get it, but we all know those guys aren't too much fun anyway! ) :D
