I was picking up a hunting rifle at my local shop and saw they had a Ruger 10-22 for sale they took on a trade in for $250. The story on the rifle is that it was won in a raffle and never used. Sat in someones gun cabinet for about 10 years. Serial number puts it at about 13 years old. It looks brand new. Nice clean wood stock with a handful of very small scratches. It has a BSA 22 special scope. Not sure if $250 is a decent price? What do you guys think? Thanks for your time. GD

Ruger 10/22

Yes it may be UNUSED and it may be near perfect but just like a new car as soon as it is titled the price drops nearly in half. It is also 13 years old so buying a new one might get you a better rifle with all the latest updates - - OR - - maybe a 13 YO Ruger 10/22 is better. I am not sure about the differences over the last 14 years - 3 of my 4 Ruger 10/22's are less than 2 years old . . . my newest 10/22 USA RACE TEAM RUGER was brand new when I got it this past April but it is a bit older manufacture since it was built around 2005 if I remember correctly . . . It all comes back to how badly you want it and is it worth the money TO YOU!!

Says never used but that is like the used car that a little old lady only drove to church I would not count on it. A new carbine can be had for between 189 and 199 pretty easy with a wood stock the BSA scope is nothing special used maybe worth 20 bucks at best. New rifle comes with a warrantee and no scratches so 175 at best

Something else to consider is that an older model might have the metal trigger guard, buttplate and stock clamp as well as the older metal magazines as opposed to the plastic stuff you'd get with a brand new model.

They work fine but it all feels a bit cheap to me. Try talking them down some and it might be worth it.

Welcome to the forum. I was thinking of buying a 50th during a recent sale, but they had sold out. Then maybe a 10/22 takedown for $290 for my daughter/son in law for Xmas, but Ruger had the new AR-556 for $599 so got that. I tried to argue they should have sold it for $556. That got some laughs.

Got the wife a 50th Anniversary Contest Model, we had to drive a bit to get it. They are so good I think they should be a standard model. The sighting system and all the features make it superior to just about any other factory 10/22 model availible right now IMHO.
