Just Picked Up New 10/22 Classic V Talo - w/Pics

After three months layaway I finally picked up my brand new 10/22 Classic V Talo. It's so classy. I love it. Took a few pictures to show you guys some of the beautiful detail on the engraving. With the longer 20” barrel it balances very nicely. As soon as I brought it home I added some swivel studs and plan to get a really nice leather sling for it soon.

There’s just one little nuisance that’s bothering me. It's the last two pics. It looks like the front sight is seated all the way into the dovetail but looking down the barrel there’s a gap on one side. I think it’s the sight which is not perfectly leveled at the base ... but it’s all the way in and touches the barrel. Well I’ll be taking it to the range tomorrow to see how it shoots. So what do you guys think? Is this something Ruger should replace or fix? Or am I being too picky?

Beautiful gun. I have a Classic III and its one of my favorites. As I have gotten older, I have acquired guns that are higher end than just the standard Field grade guns. Your Classic V falls into that category. I have wondered how the straight grip of the V feels, and if it makes pointing the rifle quicker, and easier, to bring onto target.

As far as the front sight goes, thats your call. I dont see it being a functional issue at all, simply cosmetic, and if it was mine, I would live with it, and never give it a second thought. If I were going to shoot the rifle, and not simply own it as a collectible, I would put a scope on it anyway, and never even look at the front sight.

Congratulations, that's my favorite of the current production 10/22s. I especially like the straight wrist and the Schnabel forend.

Don't worry about the front sight, unless you find out it doesn't shoot straight. It looks like the gap is even from side-to-side, so it shouldn't affect your point of aim, but you never know until you test it.

There was a time, years ago, when Ruger QA would have rejected that front sight. Not any more.

If you decide that the blade sight doesn't work great for you, I'd recommend looking at a Skinner sight system. They are low profile and made of very well finished solid metal, high enough quality to match the fine lines of your rifle.

That's purdy. I love the classic look.

Beautiful rifle. The front sight would bother me also. Because this is a limited run rifle, I probably wouldn't send it back in-Ruger might elect to keep the rifle and substitute another......

My stainless/synthetic (bought in January) has exactly the same front sight issue.

At first I had Nodak Spud sights on it but since taking those off I've put the original sight back on. It does bug me but I just try to ignore it.

I bought one of these. Was a bit disappointed in the quality of the wood. For the money, I expected better. But it is a 10/22 and shoots well. I put one of the Nikon 3x9 Rimfires on it. Rather than put holes in the stock, I use a shotgun sling that uses loops.

Acheron2010 sorry to hear you were disappointed with yours. I've heard a few had spotting on the wood. I'm sure if you had contacted Ruger they would have probably replaced the stock. Mine looks and feels great. The swivel studs I added make it look even better. My only complaint is that Ruger really should add them to every 10/22 instead of making me spend extra money, especially on a rifle that cost more than the average 10/22.

I took it to the range yesterday. Ran some Speer/Blazer 40 grain through it, off-hand standing up (no rest) using just the factory sights and set up to 35 and 40 yds. Anything further than 50 yds I usually go with a scope. I think it shot pretty well. The red dot is an inch in diameter. Most shots were keeping within 2 inches. It was hot and a little windy and I didn't hit center but I was satisfied with how it handled. I guess I'll leave the front sight as-is.

I just recently got one of these and one of the International Mannlicher TALO Exclusives (Stainless) and both are absolutely BEAUTIFUL! Everyone that sees them fall in love with them and want one of each. I have shot the Mannlicher a lot with the open sights and they are right on the money...right out of the box! I have not fired the Classic V yet but I just mounted a Simmons .22 Mag stainless scope and weaver see through rings on it. Looks fantastic! Like a work of art! I just ordered the Anniversary edition 10/22 but don't think that I will be as pleased. I just LOVE the walnut on the afore mentioned rifles.

Looks great.
Good looking wood.
Congratulations.
(Wish they were legal in OZ.)

On mine, the front sight is also the same way. However, this does not bother me.

Wood to metal fit is not great on mine. But this is its second stock. The first one had to be replaced because it was seriously cracked. The second stock is a definite improvement!

Overall, it's a good-looking rifle and I'm pleased with it. :)

My 10/22 has the same front sight issue and no matter how great the craftsmanship is on the rest of the rifle, the front sight bothers me. I don't use the sights because I mounted a scope, but Ruger must certainly be aware of this front sight issue and they apparently haven't addressed it. To me it's a flaw in an otherwise perfect gun.

Can't help it, that kind of thing just bothers me.
