I'm intrigued, but the price turns me off. .38/.357 & other calibers, with a side loading gate, but a synthetic stock. Side ejection so you can scope it. Gizmo rail... Only 7 rounds? Points for innovation, but no thanks.

Maybe Ruger can come up with a good line of lever rifles...

Lose the rail and I might be interested. Nothing wrong with a basic matte finish synthetic stocked pistol caliber carbine. Sounds like the perfect truck gun to me.

I agree with Bonk it would be a perfect truck thumper but beware of those sling mounts they will crack and break under cold weather . I had a mossburg synthetic that had that style of sling mounts and they broke under weather conditions didn't take me long to trade it off.

I'm an old fart ....so what do I know?

But if I'm going to get a lever action rifle, it's going to be a traditional "cowboy" rifle like this one:

Actually, that's the one I did get a couple of years ago.

Kinda can't help but feel like they're just copying what Marlin was already doing with their new rifles...but whatever. I think i'd like it more if it wasn't so expensive

If it shoots as well as my Big Boy 357 it would be ok. It looks better than the Marlin version to me. I have four Henry lever rifles 2 shoot very well 357, 30-30 two do not, Frontier 22lr and Big Boy 45 colt. They look cool and function flawlessly never any failures. You can spray paint a cheap stock and have the same effect looks wise.

I think it would be a good deep would deer getter, want something dark for a pop up blind or behind a wall of brush, that would work and not care if it gets scratched. That price, ouch, nevermind.

As for tacticool, whatever, I care more about does it shoot and function well long before I care about looks.

If they evolve the wood-stocked models to adopt the side gate, they'll make a lot of people happy. Then those who prefer the muzzle-end for loading can have a "pre-sidegate" legacy model they can pay a premium for on the used market. :D

I have a brass Bigboy in 38/357. It was a grail gun that I looked at for 7 years or so and got this past birthday. It is an absolute thing of beauty and I just love to handle it.

Having said that .. I dont hate the new X. It is a different animal. I think the anticipated street price is a bit high but were I to go humping through the brambles or wanted a good hiking rifle or one of a dozen reasons .. I think it might fit the bill. If they come down some from original estimates .. I may go for one.

Its like having a fancy 1911 with pretty wood grips that you love to own and shoot but .. you plan on dragging that gun along some rocks while out and about so you actually carry your Glock. Both do the same thing .. just for slightly different purposes.

Well they are starting to squeek out

I paid 678.00 plus 20 ffl for My Brass .357 with 16.5 octogon bbl so that X has to drop a touch if I am going to go for it.

I agree with this, but my Rossi 92 would be fine for that.

Well I guess that Henry finally got the side loading gate down, but I also had read that even with a side loading gate that it can still be loaded by removing the magazine tube & load it the convention original Henry design. I know that Marlin has a composite stocked model with Skinner front nd rear sights etc. But loose the rail and threaded barrel & not really crazy about composite stocks on a Lever Action rifle. I feel much like Hig I much prefer the traditional wood stocks & blued or Stainless Steel rifles. I have 2 Lever Action .357’s a older pre cross bolt safety Marlin 1894C & Rossi R92.

How many pistol caliber tube magazine rifles are still in the distribution pipeline? I would like a Big Boy brass or steel in 357magnum side gate loader.I don't want to pay a undiscounted price for a tube feeder if a side loaded is available a week later. Will some one have a big sale to empty out the Henry stockpiles of their are any?

Those Henry vacuum cleaners are everywhere in the UK. It's funny to see office building janitors working away, pulling the smiling vacuum behind them. Good cleaners too!

As for synthetic stocks on a lever action. No... never acceptable. I always say it's like seeing John Wayne with a cowboy hat on, but wearing tight spandex yoga pants. It just ain't right.

I'm very interested in a side-loading Henry in .357/.38. Seven shots for a carbine length ain't bad. I would like a Marlin but I've heard bad reports about the newer Marlins. If Henry keeps the quality up, yes, I'll buy, Waiting to hear more about them after Henry gets their production up and running for a while.
