This one has me stumped. While loading .357 Mag today I keep coming across Hornady brass that is shorter than normal. (Yeah, I know, I should sort my brass!) My Speer manual lists a max length of 1.290, and a trim length of 1.280, and I measured this Hornady brass at from 1.240 to 1.247! So, its longer than .38 Special (max length of 1.155), but shorter than regular .357 brass. Been reloading for 30 plus years and have never come across this. The only thing I can come up with is maybe they were loaded with heavier and longer than normal bullets, and they had to trim the cases so it would fit in the cylinders. What say you?
