I don't have the newer Colt but wouldn't mind getting one to do a review with my older custom shop Colt Cobra agent. Right off the bat I am sure it won't be near as good without a gunsmith going thru it to smooth it up a bit but to compare to the Ruger SP101? Nope in the long run the Ruger is much better revolver IMO once you deburr it and put some new springs in. Mt nice older Agent sits in the safe as safe queen for an occasional shoot at the range.

Following this thread. Same boat have narrowed my choices down to the SP101 & Cobra. Rediscovered the charm of revolvers and have been appendix carrying an older J frame S&W Model 36. Like to get another dedicated 38 special, as don't see need for 357 for carry. Looking for slightly bigger frame possibly 3 inch barrel. Don't like the matte stainless on Cobra, may wait for newer edition bright stainless Cobra, or Talo version. SP101 offers 3 inch barrel which I like plus many aftermarket options. Tough decision.

"may wait for newer edition bright stainless Cobra,"

They do look nice but:

https://www.colt.com/detail-page/bri...8spc-sswd-2-fs

the list price is about almost twice what the standard Cobra is.

I really like my SP101, it's a great gun, but ........... Colt, hands down.

For me ...... it's a no brainer.

Yes, it is the 3" barrel.

I like my Colt revolvers about 10 times as much though. Here is one of them.

I prefer my guns built to a standard as well, yet I do not have enough experience with a new Colt to say if it is. I chose a Kimber over an SP 101 for that reason. Costs more but what a gun. I have not been disappointed.

I just wish we had Bill Ruger's, Sturm Ruger back!

I have both, and also the Kimber. If someone put a gun to my head and said you can only keep one, it would be the sp101. I can't really tell you why. The Kimber has a better trigger and has 6 holes. And the Colt has a better trigger and has 6 holes.

But the sp101 just feels better balanced and feels the best in my hands and I also believe it is the better built of the 3.

You live in my ideal world! I too would like to own all three, but I would now want the 3” barrel Cobra. They are all nice guns and, as you note, very different.

In the end, you use the one that suits best. My fishing kit includes a Taurus 85, because it handles so well for me.

I don’t have a Cobra, but I have a mid-70s 4” Python. Of the three .357s I’ve had, the Python is my favorite. Colt makes great snakes!

Only one pistol? A toss up between the Python and a 4 5/8” .45 LC Blackhawk.

More nice things said here about the Cobra than on the Colt Forum. That’s for sure.
I own one of the new Cobras and like it a lot. The stock grips and front sight were less than great, but easliy replaced. Seriously considering picking up a King Cobra when the dust of “new release” settles

I read that they would cost more. Count me out. Had my eyes on a nice S&WModel 10-7 Dedicated 38 special. Didn't like the VZ grips on it as I like wood original. Think my quest will open up now to also include a S&W Model 10 or 19. Think the 19 is blue. Prefer stainless..

I'm an SP101 fanboy as I've owned one for 15 years and have several thousand rounds thru it. I carried it full time for 1/3 of those 15 years and still carry it at times. Just haven't felt the need for another snub nose. The Colt looks like a nice addition for someone I'm just not in the market.

I had a chance to buy a NIB stainless Det Special in the 90's for $300 and didn't pull the trigger on the deal. I still regret that moment of frugality (being a cheapskate ).

Ouch!

Think we all have a few of those stories. Different priorities at different times in our lives.
