In my teen years - long, LONG ago - I did quite a bit of shooting - Mossberg .22 - but then set it aside for quite some time. Then I stumbled across SASS at a shooting show. Oddly, the first new gun I aquired was not a single action, but a Mark II Comp. This was soon followed up by a pair (a month a part - this is the PRK) of Bis Vaqs in .45 Colt. (Other cowboy guns are a Marlin 1894 and a Winchester 97.) MY SO has her own pair of New Vags in .38/.357.
Then I 'needed' an auto - read some of the bad reports, swallowed hard and bought a KPR345. Have not regretted it for a moment.
Welcome from NTex...you reminded me of the Mossberg Palomino lever action...used to lay awake as a kid dreaming of one...is your 97 an original? Think they fire by holding down the trigger and shucking the slide...my grandpa had one in 16....you're gonna have lots of fun here!!!
My '97 is an original but of fairly late manufacture based on the S/N. Don't know if it will slam fire, never tried that.
My Mossberg was (and still is) a 146B bolt action. In those days I could actually see the sights AND the target at the same time and I was pretty good with it. These days it is more like put the close blur on the far blur.
Welcome from Louisiana. I also had a fondness for Rugers & trains, both model and the real deal. Would ride them just for the fun of it from San Diego up to LA in the 70s & early 80s. They had some neat trains back then, and occasionally hooked old # 1509 observation on the end of the regular scheduled run. Also walked the SD&AE tracks through the Dos Cabasos area, 22 miles through the tunnels and over the old trestles. And had HO model trains for years. Now just the the Rugers.
