So when did Ruger start selling factory seconds?

Dropped into my Cabelas and saw they had a variety of new Ruger revolvers and semi's in their Gun Library, all marked as factory seconds. I might have missed something but have never seen a Ruger listed as such. For example, a GP100 4" stainless and the GP100 .22 were $599. But I'm not sure what makes them seconds? Scratch and dent?

Factory seconds, also known as factory rejects or simply seconds, are retail items which, through minor fault of manufacture, are sold to the public for a reduced rate, rather than being discarded.

Depending on what, they may be good to go if it just a blemish you can work out. Surely, they wouldn't sell a firearm that wasn't at least safe to shoot. Just check it all over real good and learn what to look and check for.

It’s ok since they have great CS and will make it right when you send it back.

I can't believe you did not ask the clerk. Something does not make sense. Are they used? Are they guns that came in to the store blemished? What gives? Go back to the store and ask. No one here has the answer.

Cabelas. That was enough. Since Bass Pro took over, it gets worse by the week.

Since they will not even let you inspect a gun properly any longer, no sense taking chances. They offer no warranty any longer, either. I am done with that chain.

Cabelas stopped permitting shoppers any inspections of timing on revolvers or any dry firing, earlier this year. I canceled my Club membership after using my last points, and told corporate why. They no longer care about gun hobbyists.

The OP should look elsewhere for a deal.

These were probably guns used as display items at some of the big sporting goods shows like SHOT, etc. They will have cosmetic marks from handling but be mechanically sound.

That is too funny!!!

I used to see Kygunco a few times a year have a “blemished” Taurus sale. They always had a bunch of models and lots of each. Still not sure what was going on at Taurus.

I think Cabelas buys Davidson's guaranteed guns when the end user sends them back for one reason or another. After Davidson's returns them to mfg for repair they have to sell them at less than new, thereby the word Seconds.

If that was the case, would they be able to sell them as new? I would think that the majority of the warranty turn in guns would have been shot, thus making them used.

Totally agree. No inspection, no sale.

There are items that I'm sure will never be sold as factory seconds. Firearms, drugs and autos are included on that list. The liability would be way to much if something were to happen. Cabelas may have had items that were display items handled roughly by customers, damaged in the warehouse, etc. and some genius decided to put up a sign calling them factory seconds. It isn't long underwear or shoes there are consequences to being defective for some things.
