Preferred Factory .308 in GSR Rifles?

For those of you that shoot factory .308 in bolt actions, especially with the shorter barrels (16"-18"), do you have a preferred ammunition that you use regularly?
On the other hand, do you have any that you avoid?
I'm a new owner of a 16" GSR, in my own experience, I had bad results with Aguilla FMJ, out of 24 rounds, 10 didn't fire. Anything else seems to work just fine as far as functioning.
I'm just looking for advice to find a starting point to get to my own favorite .308 ammo.

Every rifle is an individual. All factory ammo should function, but accuracy in your rifle may be better or worse than someone else's of the same model. What do you want to do? Are you just planning to make holes in paper with FMJ loads? Will you be hunting? If so, what species and at what yardages? Is accuracy at 100yds your goal or do you just want inexpensive plinking ammo that goes bang? Tell us more about what you intend to use the ammo for. You will ultimately have to try several of the types that meet your needs and let the targets tell you what the rifle likes.

ngashooter makes a valid point. My GSR likes 150 grain bullets with handloads of H4831 and H4350. My rifle is the stainless 18' barrel and composite stock. Despite Col. Cooper's requirements, I use a Leupold 3X9 scope mounted over the action. My rifle shoots very well out to 400 yards in any kind of weather, and is my go to rifle of cjoice. YMMV. Paul.

Good point on "what's the mission"?

Initially target shooting, hopefully someday medium game and hogs.

I guess I'm leaning more towards concentrating on hunting rounds..

The 150gr weight class works well in the shorter barrels, and recoils less than the heavier bullets. Conventional cup and core bullets perform great at the modest velocities typical of the .308 Winchester. Look for sales on the affordable Core Lokt, Power Point, American Whitetail, and Non Typical lines. It's worth trying some of the imported ammo too. I will be testing some .243 Win and .303 British from Herters and Sellier & Bellot soon. I have had good results with the S&B in various calibers previously. Enjoy the shooting as you find what your rifle prefers.
