I got a 300 round box of CCI Tactical 22LR. Anyone know how close it is to Mini-Mags? Sure looks similar, but it says velocity is 1200 fps. If I recall correctly, Mini-Mags are 1250 fps. Otherwise,.they look really similar

I think they are very close to the Mini-Mags.
I read something about the tactical rounds having a lube coating that helps them work better in AR type 22 rifles.

sounds like a "Glamours" title for a basic round. keep us updated on the performance, with the 22 ammo shortage it might be worth knowing about should they become available.

I bought some a while back. What drew me to it was, it was available.

The one on the left is the superior bullet casting in terms of feeding. It is much closer to the shape of CCI SV which is among my favorites for 1022.

40gr Mini Mags are not 1260fps that is the 36gr hp Mini Mags the 40 grain mini mags are half way between the hollow points and the tactical and just on general principles I would say the odds are in favor of the lower velocity and more SV-like bullet shape should make them more accurate in any 22 than 40gr Mini Mags but there are other considerations as well and you never know.

One thing that we do know is that CCI brand across the board in 22lr is quality and reliable and consistent on accuracy and velocity.

Adding 'tactical' to the package increases the cost.

They are not stupid. It's not a marketing gimmick. It cost big bucks to bring any new product mass produced to the market place and even bigger bucks if it's a product the government does not want you to have. I am sure that we'd all be paying a lot less for that box of ammo or any box of ammo but for government interference. Politicians/lawyers/liars are always the biggest problem. In the long run, if the communist/fascist/socialist don't win out the cost of the product will be right in line with other popular (due to quality and performance) ammo and for good reason.

As of the designers of the "AR-type" 22lr rifles they are not stupid or ignorant either. No one designs a weapon for mass marketing around a specific bullet casting. If a gun performs better with one round over another it is not because the gun manufacturers are idiots.

The need for high velocity ammo in a 1022 is non existent in a fully functional 1022 with no problems in the action. Some need to be cleaned, smoothed and treated with Frog Lube instead of bone dry or soaking in oil at which point any quality standard velocity round will cycle the action and feed/extract/eject with no problems. Like CCI SV specifically.

I don't own a M&P and suppose it is possible the action on those does require higher than standard velocity ammo in which case CCI has apparently answered the call.

You get what you pay for...but only if you are both lucky AND/OR know what you are doing...better to just be lucky...
