I haven't logged in in a long time and just saw your message. I love my pt709! really nice for backpacking and CC. it's a keeper. I am now looking to add a new sp101 with the 4.2" barrel. I like the added barrel length (sight plane & added muzzle energy) & .357 cal. for backpacking. I ran into a wolf last fall. came within 40'-50' of our camp, middle of the day. I saw the disadvantage of the 709's 2" barrel at that distance couple with a wolf's narrow silhouette.
But I never worried, loved having the 8 shots, I only got 2 off before the wolf retreated into the thick grass. The convenience of the 709 is why I had it handy in a second or two. very dependable! and I'm not much of an auto guy either, never have seen one as dependable as a revolver, and I trained and taught small arms for years. The 709 is winning me over little by little.
