    Hi, Iowegan.

This is a reloading question; in my 1911 45, sometimes, as I am collecting the spent rounds at the range, the brass looks like it has been "annealed" after firing. What do you think is causing that?
Thanks in advance. I always appreciate your help and advice.

    Hi, Iowegan.

I have a gunsmith question; I have a Ruger Blackhawk New Model, made in 1977, maybe shot around 10K rounds or less. About 1 time in 50, when the hammer is pulled back, the cylinder doesn't rotate to the next chamber, but stops in between chambers and does not lock. What do you think is wrong?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi, Iowagan.
I would have added this to the other post but the character limit prohibited it.
Are brass jacket bullets (harder than copper) safe for the bore/rifling, long term?
    Thanks,

    Hi, Iowegan.
I was reading your post from May 28th, 2022, on the possible problems with Lil gun. It reminded me that the most accurate load I have ever had with my 110 grain 357s out of the Blackhawk, was Vihtavouri N-110. When I shoot them, I only shoot about 6, maybe 12 at a time. I don't recall any issues. What do you think?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info. Sometimes it sure seems hard to get a simple answer to a question, but you came through for me just like I've seen you do for lots of other members. You are a blessing to all of us. Thanks again.

So, next question. The gun in question is a well-worn shooter, with some holster wear, some forcing cone erosion, some slight rust apparent and has a serial number that indicates it was manufactured in 1959. Can you give a ballpark figure for what it might be worth?

    Cheers,

Lowegan, thanks for the lead on parts .so if the transfer bar being broken wont effect the overall performance of the gun how about the small pin with a spring that goes right above the trigger? When I reassembled the gun the pin and spring fits into a little circular hole but not entirely . It just sits loosely in the whole. Let me look up the proper terminology and get back to ya. Thanks again I appreciate your wisdom very much

    Hi,

In a post I came across here I read

"SBHs went through several changes from 1959 to 1973, when they were discontinued. At first the SBH had a longer cylinder frame but it was shortened to exactly the same as a BH. NM SBHs haven't changed much since they were introduced in 1973. The OM SBH were not made in stainless steel but the NM SBH have been made in both blued and stainless."

Does this mean that one could measure the cylinder length on an old model SBH and determine if it was the "long frame" version? I've tried to find out the answer to this question on several forums and get conflicting information. I hear that the difference is 1/10 of an inch, but no mention of what the "long" one will measure. No one seems to be posting any numbers. A fellow I know has one that was made in 1959 and the cylinder measures 1.750 inches long. Which is this one? Long or short?

    Thanks,

    Ken )

I had a question regarding my NEW MODEL SBH SINGLE ACTION 44 mag.stainless 9 " barrel Ruger pistol. Can dry firing be the cause of the broken transfer bar and where is a good place to find a replacement transfer bar. I lied one more question. Will the broken transfer bar effect how the trigger hammer and cylinder move in unison ? I hope that's clear enough. I appreciate any insight and wisdom you may have too offer sir!

I am new to the forum, but have seen where many people think highly of your guides. I was interested in any information that I can get on trigger kits for a super redhawk. Most of the things I have read say that you are the Guru of Ruger.

Sadly, I was banned this week from a forum that I truly enjoyed being a member of by a moderator that did not name his or herself, did not give me a warning, and did not give me an opportunity to defend myself. I was told "We have had enogh of your foolishness". Period.

As a senior member of this forum with over 500 posts, the majority of which were in the reloading and gunsmithing forums and were positive and helpful, even to those who I disagreed with in the "minefield", I would ask that you ask yourselves if someone who gave as much to this community as I did deserved to be banned without so much as a single warning simply for posting non-conservative ideas in the minefield.

If you feel that such a ban is unwarranted, and feel that I have been a positive member of this forum, please speak to whatever moderator banned me, on my behalf.

    I would be grateful.

    Thank you,

Today I recieved 1/4"-20 X 1-1/2" Allen bolts for my Ruger. A bit bigger than the old ones, I see. I found that the Allen Bolts don't fit onto the V-Block either. I need a V-Block replacement to fit these bolts. What can I do?

    Thanks for any advice.

Thanks again for responding. I really appreciate Your help.

I found a Vermont American Black Max 1/4" - 20 Tap & Drill Combo with a #7 drill. US made, good quality. I believe it will be adequate.

Plug Tap for 1/4" 20 -are there any recommendation I should consider? Irwin, HSS, Du-Bro?

1/4"-20 X 1-1/2" Allen bolts: are the heads small enough to fit the V-Block on the 10/22? -I think I overtightened the original, so the threads are in bad shape here. How much tightening is required?

    Thanks,

    B-H.

Hi, I saw that You wrote that You have drilled and tapped the threads to 1/4x20 then got some Allen head screws and cut them to the proper length, to salvage a Ruger 10/22 receiver.

I have threads on my receiver that are in pretty bad shape, and I am wondering if these 1/4"-20 X 1-1/2" Allen head screws are about the same that You used?
