No. 1 25-06

Hello all,I finally aquired my first No.1 in 25-06.I am not new to Ruger, but new to single shots. How do you tell the models apart?Have they always made only a certain set of calibers for each years production? So many questions.I am also new to chatting on any forums as well.Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,Scott

Welcome from Australia mate.
Glad to have you on board, nice folk here and lots of good info.
Congratulation of your 26-06.
Ruger has only recently gone over to one calibre per model per year.

Hello, thanks for the welcome! I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do so.Picked a load out of the Hornady book,58.0gr IMR 7828,and a 100gr Spire Point flat base,Hornady brass and Winchester large rifle primer, shot 1/2" 5 shot group at 120 pace's,at an average of 3210 fps.I am 6' 5",so it may be about 125 yards or so.I am impressed!Somehow I don't think I really need to do much more load development, other than to duplicate this load/group.

Also forgot to mention,it has a 26" barrel,no sights, only a quarter rib with scope mounts.Does anyone make laminated stocks for the No 1?

Congrats on the No 1, load development doesn't sound like it's going to be a challenge, enjoy.

Cheers,
Waldyo

Thanks. Also forgot to mention the No 1 came with an older Redfield fixed 6x,fine cross hairs with a 1 minute dot.It is very clear and bright. This rifle must have been a truck gun, because it has many worn spots on the bluing, and several scumps on the stock. It just gives it character I think. It took quite some time to clean it up.Haven't come across one that dirty in some time.

26" pipe and a quarter rib.

Ruger No. 1B

Ruger had a run of stainless several years ago that had laminated stocks (good luck finding a take off for sale, but they come up every blue moon).

Bell and Carlson makes/made a fiberglass stock replacement. I have no clue as to the fit and fnish of them.

A "V" would have target blocks. Unless there's a variation I missed (could be).

Hello all, thanks for the info.Still working on the pictures, but work is getting in the way! I checked Boyd's,they do not make replacements for the No 1.However,Macon Gunstocks make inleted blanks in any wood you want, including laminates.I am going to call when I have time.
