varminter 223 projectiles

Hi all. Just thought I would post again to say I really pleased with my 223 no-1 now that I have installed A Moyer's trigger, glassed the hanger, floated the barrel plus also install A pressure point at the end of the forearm between the barrel. Now I can obtain A half inch groups even in the wind. with A load of 27grain of benchmark plus a 40vmax for 3700fps. I must say I cant believe how my hits have improved on rabbit from 200 to 350 meter now that I have I have stated dialing for wind into my shots. Had no idea how bad A .224 was push around by A 10MPR wind. Brought A Anemometer off ebay for about $16us. Seem to work great!
Would love to hear from anybody with A 1/12 twist no-1 223. AS I would like to try maybe some heaver projectiles. Will A 60gr vmax stabilize!
also will try A 50gr vmax plus A 53gr vmax. What load works for you?
heres some pics

geoff23, I have a Remington 700 (24" bolt action) in 223 Rem that also has a 1:12 twist rate. I've done extensive testing with all sorts of bullets and powder combinations and here's what I came up with:

My best long range groups are with 50~55 gr bullets loaded to about the same velocity as factory ammo. My favorite is 55 gr V-Max Hornady or 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip with 26.5 gr of Varget. This load produces 3220 fps (factory is 3240) and will hold sub-MOA groups out to at least 400 yards. The 52 gr Speer BTHPs shoot exceptionally well with 27gr of Varget or 27gr of W-748.

I tried 60 gr V-Max bullets with several different powders. At 100 yards, accuracy was not as good as lighter bullets and at extended distances, not good at all. I believe 60 gr is just a bit too heavy to fully stabilize.

Yes, wind reeks havoc on .224" bullets. Their Ballistic Coefficient is poor and there's just not enough weight to buck the wind.

2296mag will become famous soon enough
My no1223v works well with 55g Nosler Ballistic tip 25g of powder. It took time to find this and I tested a few loads and weights went to 60 and 65g they were ok but not a consistent as the 55g thats a nice rifle lad much to envy so enjoy

Thanks. heaps of helpfully info, Wow 400yards ! that some shooting. I can obtain A reloading pack- were you can pick just about any projectile you want. in 15 projectiles per packs for load development!. So I think I,ll try A 50gr vmax - 53gr vmax - 55grvmax maybe A match 52hpbt ! what do you think. I have benchmark plus 748 on hand. Just not sure on 748 as with the 40vmax they were allover the place. Is that A good indicator that the powder dosn,t suit the rifle or should I persisted with try heavier projectiles with 748?

Also can I ask- cleaning guides for no1s- Who,s made something to fit A single shot!
Thanks again
