Good N.1 shell holder?

Hi all
This is my first post on this forum and although I've owned firearms all my life (I'm 51) I have just bought my first Ruger, a 375 H&H No.1 stainless with laminate stock.
This will not be my first 375 H&H but it will be my first single shot and I have been carefully looking at how I will set this up.
One of the points I have been looking at is access to ammunition.
I know this is a single shot rifle but I would like to think that (in the field) there is easy access to a first round or a follow up round if necessary, and for me this has to be on the rifle rather than on my person.
I have looked at the butt-stock options and I just can't see the ergonomic sense in positioning rounds vertically for a rifle that feeds horizontally- surely this involves a change of finger position that could result in dropping the shell or at the very least a slower load?
What made the most sense to me was a device that held 2 rounds (or even 1) horizontally and close to the loading area.
There didn't seem to be anything like that available until I saw this Italian product, and to my naive and unqualified eyes it look just about perfect!
I have made contact with the seller and they are ready to ship to me but it will require a wire transfer to pay and that makes it expensive.
Anyway, what do you all think about this 2 round holder strapped on the side of a No.1?

Incidentally I'm thinking it would be strapped between the scope mount bases, that would ensure it cannot move around and I'm hoping it would not be in way of my left hand under the fore end (I'm right handed).

I use the popular butt-stock holders on my #1s but I modify them a bit to my liking. The one you show looks like a good design though and I think I'll have to make one up myself sometime. Shouldn't be too hard to come up with one similar.

Local option

I had another look around and found a less flashy but much cheaper local option so I'll try this one first and see how it goes.

Is this for a 'dangerous game' setup?

If so, isn't inconsistent to have a scope? (all I know is what I see on TV)

Not specifically for dangerous game, or anything in particular really!

It's a general purpose outfit for everything from Texas hogs to whatever!
It will be wearing a Weaver Classic Extreme 1.5-4.5x28 (with Swarovski see- through covers) in medium Ruger mounts. The buttstock will be cut to 13.5 LOP with a 10001 limbsaver recoil pad and 10 oz mercury recoil reducer installed.
The sling is a Boonie Packer 2" Safari model and I handload using mostly Barnes TSX bullets and H4895.
Cheers

I tried a similar carrier but have found the wrist carrier made by 7X Leather, more practical and aesthetically more pleasing. Have a look at:

I seen a youtube vid where the bloke holds a few rounds in between his inner knuckes fingers as he loads shoot n reloads his No1 very fast an looks quite easy nuff.

I do like that foward mount pouch

I'm sure there are people who use the wrist holders extremely well and I am going to try out an Uncle Mikes version to see how I like it.
But I still like the idea of a round or two being on the actual rifle because I don't have to remember to put the wrist thing on and if a rifle is suddenly needed in a hurry then find the rifle and a round will be there (Think toothy critter wanders in to camp)!

Reefrat,

Personally, and this may be an Ol'Coot's thing, but I don't do pressure on my barrel - hunting rifles - be it stock pressure or pressure such as the barrel/forend cuff show in the link you provide.

I have used butt cuffs, and have found them to work just fine except -------

Because I have problems carrying things in my hands or arms for any length of time, I went to the Boonie Sling which allows for great carry and extremely fast bringing into action all the while with no pressure/weight on my arms.

However, with the butt cuff, it prevents the smooth and quick movement of the sling because it hangs up on the butt cuff.

Soooooooo, I have designed a wrist cuff for my 45/70, put it on my left wrist with the shells on top. This allows me to pull one of the 4 loaded cartridges from the wrist cuff with the right hand, while the left hand maintains it's hold on the forend and because the shells are on the outside, they are not dinging up the rifle stock.

I thought of the belt shell holders or boxes. but much of my hunting is done while wearing coats and anything on the belt is going to be covered up and hard/slow to get too.

The wrist cuff has solved the problems for me. Fast, out of the way, easy to get too.

I am using generation #2, and this one is a keeper.

Keep em coming!
