Picked up my 2nd #1 in .405 Win.

Except this one isn't a #1-H like my 1st, it's a #K1S, obviously in stainless and with the shorter, lighter barrel. I'm guessing it was a limited run for Lipsey's?
At any rate, it's still new and should be hoot to shoot being a somewhat light weight rig for the caliber. I'm not sure yet but I'm thinking it'll run somewhere around 7.5-7.75lbs. My #1-H runs 10lbs+ w/scope and two of my others are about 9lb w/o scopes. Thinking about setting this one up with a New England Custom Gun Service #N-100 peep sight and perhaps loading it down a bit.

I believe they were a standard cataloged model but could be wrong as my RENE isn't handy.
The .405 Win is one chambering I wanted in the #1 since they first announced it. Just the combination of the classic cartridge in the classically styled design was a perfect fit - had to have one. Took a few years but one finally presented itself. have to be the blued/walnut as personally the model looses the majority of it's class and style in the stainless, but that's just me.
No scope yet and doubtful it'll get one as I really like the NEGC rear using the Ruger mounts.
Surprisingly, a run of .405 was recently done along with some other's that I thought were no longer but as with Ruger, ya never know.

Congrats on another #1. You can't have too many. The ones that I have are some of my most prized rifles.

I agree! Here, they get their own roomy cabinet all to themselves. The rest sit cramped in a darkened closet.

I love my #1 in 405. I shot this big sow of 350 lbs with it.

I have to agree whole heartedly that #1's in walnut & blue are beautiful pieces where as I find the stainless ones a bit homely. That's why I picked up a .405 1-H with terrific wood first. I actually never thought I'd be buying a stainless version #1 at all as I'm totally partial to W&B (as now 3 out of 4 are) but this one being a 22" medium barreled version of the .405 tripped my trigger. Even though it's quite possibly the only stainless #1 I'll ever own, I do know that four #1's aren't nearly enough. You guys are right, you can't have too many of 'em!

BTW: Nice sow punkinlobber!

The 405 is a classic old cartridge and in a number 1 pleasant to shoot. I had an older win 95 in 405 and the stock made recoil greatly magnified over the mechanical amount of recoil.

UPDATE: I just picked up the rifle NIB. However, although having a 22" barrel it's not the Medium or "S" barrel the seller represented it as. I even asked the guy specifically if it was actually a medium sporter barrel as he put in his description of it as I'd never heard of one. He said yes. No matter, It's simply a 22" long "H" or tropical type barrel instead of 24" I like it none the same as it is a little different from the one I have. A little disappointed though none the less.

bwinters: I also own two original 1895's in .405 WCF. One was made in 1909 and has the standard crescent shaped buttplate (although the rest of the rifle is anything but standard) which is the style of stock that was punishing to the shooter. The other was one of the first .405's made (in 09/1903) being a special order (on the factory letter) with a shotgun style buttplate that tamed the recoil considerably. They're both fun to shoot though.

Update #2:
Oh well, win some and loose some. I was way to busy today to take anything but a quick look at the rifle this morning when I picked it up. I did read the box end only to find it labeled a K1-H (bad enough news) but now I had time to sit down with it and low and behold, it has the standard 24" barrel as well. A rifle I bought because I thought was going be a bit different is nothing but totally standard fair. Do I like it? Yes. As much as my 1-H? Not hardly. Is it then a real keeper like I consider the 1-H to be? No, like Rambo, it's expendable.

Looks like it's not a wash after all. I talked to Ruger and it seems that less than 250 of the stainless #1's were made in .405 Win. caliber. That might just make it a NIB keeper and not a shooter after all.
