Laminate to walnut weight difference

I'm in the process of swapping my laminated furniture to walnut on a 25-06. I bought the wood from W.G.P. Ltd out of Canada; part of it through GB and the other through emails with them (good people to deal with). Shipping took about 8 days total and was delivered through USPS.

While the walnut I received was unremarkable in figure. It suits the build and will be hunted hard with.

First off, the weight difference between the walnut and laminate. I realize the weight of wood varies with density, but this will give a rough idea of the differences. This weighing was done with all the same hardware attached.

Buttstock:
Laminated: 1lb. 9.85 oz.
Walnut: 1lb. 7.80 oz.

Forearm:
Laminated 10.85 oz.
Walnut 7.80 oz.

This swap was not about weight, but I thought I'd throw this out there for reference. The net reduction in weight was 4.3 oz.

I'm swapping it purely for looks. I got a good deal on the gun, a better deal on a Leupold 3L CDS scope and figured I'd finish it off in walnut, rather than the Laminate.

Overall, I'll be into it more than needed, but isn't that the point?..lol... And yes, ounces add up and it does make a difference..

The foreend I ordered had the wrong barrel channel (really wrong), so instead of sanding it out, which would take a lot of time and would probably come out like crap, I decided to get a different one.. That one should be here in a week or so and I'll see if it needs refinishing and I'll post up pics of the finished product.

The forearm I'm waiting on is an AH which is about 3 inches shorter than the semi-beavertail, so it might look a little odd with a 26" pipe. On the flip side though, it will be easier to free-float :)

I'll post pics in a week or so I imagine...
