Doesn't look like there is a lot of replies coming your way!

I have had a Redfield mounted on a #1, but that was years back.

#1B, 7mm mag. with a 4X12 Redfield w/rangefinder.

Made the longest shot I'll ever make with that combination.

According to the rangefinder a touch over 500yds, bang/flop on a mulie buck in Washington's Snake river breaks.

Way before the days of shooters commonly having chronographs, so went with the info from the loading manual, took the suggest hold over and touched it off.

I usually carried a packframe and bag when hunting the breaks, so was laying over the bag the hold was close to sandbag steady and the 160gr Nosler Partition flew true.

To watch a critter simply fall over at that distance is something I never forget.

So, Sorry to not be able to help with current info, but that is my Old tail.

Not on any #1's but I might try one for a 10/22 build. If it's a decent scope, another could follow and maybe end up on a #1 here.

Ya might check out the paralax before installing on the 10/22.

Some scopes are sad when so mounted.

I have a Leupold 3X9 "EFR" scope on my Clark Custom 77/22 and while there are other scopes well suited for .22s, that one is great with the extended focus range.

If the scope is in focus, the paralax is correct for that distance.

I realise there are other good products out there, and my intent is not to start a debate as to which brand is better, but personally I have always had very good results with Leupold. Never a glitch, never!

I recall installing a new Weaver - this back probably 30 years - 10X on a varmit rifle, and while the scope was clear and sharp, it was not possible to clearly see close in targets such as found when "walking up" ground critters.

Out aways not a problem, but ---------------

Changed out to a Leupold 10X, problem solved. I don't know what the optical differences were, but one worked one didn't.

Bought a Trashco - 4X12 w/AO a number of years ago for use on a .22 and got exactly what I paid for, trash.

Always look at the lower priced lines with a question in your mind, as junk is always junk, no matter how cheap, while the cost of quality is soon forgotten in the length and quality of service that product will almost always provide.

Bushnell, at their cheaper end, is questionable, one I had on a used rifle had a great!!!! amount of paralax. The replacement Leupold, didn't!

However, the upper end Bushnell products have a good track record.

So, the point is, you may get a good low end scope, but in general you do get what you pay for in scopes.

You may never know, until you try, but the hassle and effort of dealing with a lessor product, for me, has always made a quality scope, new or used, the best over all deal.

No issue taken. I have Leupold scopes on several rifles and love them. Not asking about Redfield based on price, as I can afford any scope out there. I am simply intrigued by them being re-offered and fondly remember a Redfield Tracker (yes, cheaper model) I had on a .270 when I was a teenager. That thing was brighter than any of my $500+ Leupolds The fact that Leupold is making the new Refields has also added to my curiosity.

I always get a bit skittish when I see changes in a line up. Usually it seems someone is trying to get one over on us.

For example, Nikon with a whale of a quality name starts bring out lenses and camera bodies at lower price levels, which also relates to something less in quality then what their name was built on. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

So now Leupold brings out Redfield, Hmmmmmmmmmmagain.

What is their point??

Is it to bring out a lessor scope and use a different name so as to NOT degrade the Leupold name?????? If so, I can understand and even agree.

But, I like it better if a company brings out a product, establishes a "name" then as technology improves bring out new and better into the line while continuing the manufacture of the origional with NO decrease in the origional quality.

When it goes the other way, it always leaves me with the question of just how good is this new product.

I have a 3X9 Leupold "EFR" scope on my Clark Custom RUGER 77/22, and about the time I bought the scope here comes another Leupold 3X9 EFR at probably a hundred dollars less in cost.

Quality???? What would I be giving up by buying this lower priced version?

I don't think these mind games are smart moves on the part of the manufacture, as they are about like the ice cream I bought the other day in what looks like a half gal package.

It ain't, it is 1 and about 3/4qt. It looks the same when a 1/2gal package and the new one are not side by side. The price is the same as the 1/2gal and maybe higher.

Point is, don't mess with me! I know prices get raised! JUST DON'T TRY TO SLIP SOMETHING OVER ON ME!!!!

I many times buy more then I can really afford, but I hate products of "Trashco" quality, and am willing to spend more to be assured of quality and satisfaction. PLEASE, Don't mess with me on quality!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe Leupold should have named the new scopes something different. They bought the name and are producing a completely new scope with Redfield name on it and has a limited lifetime warranty the same as Leupold. The clarity is incredibly good. I own 3 and will be getting more. 2-7x on Ruger 22KH, 4-12 Accurange on ,223 Sako and a 3-9x on a Ruger #1. My friend finally bought one after lambasting the redfogs of yesteryear and has now done a complete turn around of his opinion of Redfield. The next scope he buys will be another Redfield. The only part of this scope that resembles the old Redfield is the name.

Good to hear about the new Redfield quality!!

But the question still remains, Why?

Maybe there is a name recognition thing, which I don't understand, that will bring in lots of old time Redfiend owners.?.

But then what about those who were turned off by the name/brand such as your friend?

As said, don't understand. But then I don't understand the huge numbers of catalogs I receive yearly from Cabela's.

Have told others I would really like to see the "bottom line figures", as per the volumn/dollars of sales after each catalog mailing! It must work.

Guess the same thing would apply to Leupold and the relaunching of Redfield.

I'd like to see the bottom line results.

I agree with you 100% on that question. They have me scratching my head every time I go to the mailbox

Sounds like I will have to run to the gun shop this week and see if I can take a peek through one of these "new" Redfields.
