#1 Barreled Action

Just came into ownership of a #1 barreled action chambered in .300 Weatherby Mag. (I think, not marked), Not a Ruger barrel and no wood. Action was made in late 1985. Does anyone know if Ruger would return to original configuration as it left the factory, replacing the wood and barrel? If so, would it have to be in original chambering? Or would I be allowed to choose? This is my 5th #1, I paid $200.00 for it. I assume that was a decent price. (??)

It would be interesting to see what Ruger has to say. I would think that they would sell you a stock, would want to re-barrel it themselves...not sell a barrel outright...which is what you mention you want. $200 for what you have seems good. Overall cost could get out of hand quickly.

No.1 7mm mag barrels are on ebay regularly.

I have a #1 made in 1976 (I think) specifically for the American Single Shot Rifle Association per order of Bill Ruger numbered 1 to 100, I have #82 in .32-40. Needing a forearm I called Ruger, they informed me they would NOT sell me a forearm that I would have to return the rifle to them and they would return it to factory standard condition. Considering that these actions only were sent to ASSRA in a pistol box numbered for the first 100 members. I tried to explain that to the rep. to no avail. They denied that ever being done. Most likely because these actions were personally overseen by Bill Ruger himself.
SO, I fully expect Ruger will require the same in this case. That's OK.

Decent price, and a good find. I think that it would be best to ask Ruger about it, though. Pretty much anything you will see here is speculation.

Already delivered to Ruger for return to factory original per their direction. It will be returned in .270 Winchester #1-B. No idea if they charge for restoration, no matter, I am extremely happy with Ruger products and customer service.
When it is returned I will visit my gun pimp and purchase another Ruger, not sure which one, probably a second Mark 4.
