A "Different" No. 3

Just picked up a beautiful #3 in .22 Hornet. What's different (to me at least) is that a) no barrel band; b) different (and thinner) fore piece and c) highly polished wood. S/N says it was made in '77. Could this have been a Lipsey's? Any info much appreciated.

That's custom wood. Somebody spent a few dollars there.

That's just remodeled original factory wood.
Not sure Lipseys was even around back then.

That is a beautiful No.3, I'm envious, mine is the 30-40Krag but your wood is absolutely gorgeous, and the lack of a barrel band is fantastic. I also like the caliber, although I don't reload for the .22 Hornet, I'm sure I could start, as I did with the 30-40Krag.

Not the original stock or, at least, not the way it came from the factory. Also, very doubtful if it was a special edition. I do know several folks that have re-stocked their No 3s, some with gorgeous wood. Says a lot about how much they love their guns. Looks like you got lucky and found such a gun. Congrats. 3s are hard to find - I know, because I am currently looking.

I agree that's custom work, the wood is more typical of what you might find on a No.1. Nice looking piece, congrats on the find.

Now what?

As pretty as it is, it's for sale. Bought it for the wife and she doesn't like it. I haven't made enough posts to place a classified ad and I don't care for GB and the like so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keep posting, because I want to know when you sell it..LOL.

Seriously I don't know. I know some of the local shops around here do consignment sales but I don't know what the fees are. Did you buy it locally?
