Ruger No.1 in .17 Rem.

*I have a rifle I'm trying to find more about. I have a Ruger No. 1B in .17 Remington made in 1984, it's just your basic standard except for the caliber. I know they made a lot of different calibers in the No.1 but can find no information on this one. I've contacted Ruger but haven't gotten what they know about it yet. Any information that you can offer would be appreciated.

Wow, I have never seen a #1 in 17 Rem...........sounds like it may have been a special order.

Hopefully someone knows about this gun, because I like to know more about it myself.

Me thinks I'd be hanging on to that one.

Yeah, I won't be getting rid of this one. Whatever Ruger tells me I'll post it.

Sounds like a rebarrel. To my knowledge a No1 has never been chambered in 17 Remington from the factory

There has never been any Ruger single shot in 17 caliber. Almost certainly a custom/rebarrel. Without the correct barrel stamps, it's not a Ruger.

I've seen fakes with correct looking proof marks, etc. Never know though but I'd be getting my request in to Ruger for verification. Only a few dollars.

Yeah I'm waiting on my response from Ruger, maybe in the next few days. Even if it's not the rare bird, it's still a great caliber that shoots very good.

As stated, there has never been a Number 1 offered in 17 Remington. I won't say made, because anything is possible, but it's about a 99.9% chance it's a rebarrel. Are one off customs possible? I guess so, but would be damn hard to prove and SOMEBODY would have heard about it by now. Factory looking stamps are easy and done everyday. Now, unless you paid a premium because you thought the rifle was a rare collectible, does it really matter if the barrel is factory?

I got a really good buy on it at an auction about 8 years ago, $450, would pay that for about any No.1. Be neat to have an one-off, but love the caliber. I'm the type of person that follows the trail of info on something I haven't seen before. Thanks for the help, I'll get to the bottom of it eventually and ya'll updated.

I have a Remington 40X in 17 Remington. Of course I bought it knowing it had been rebarreled, so didn't matter to me. I just like 40Xs and thought one in a 17 would be cool

67No.1, I just finished looking thru the Blue Book of Gun Values for the No1, and could not find even a mention of one .17.

A picture or two of the barrel stamps could clear things up pretty quickly.

Sounds like it could possibly be a relined factory barrel?

I believe you're right about it being a rebarrel. I got back and got a closer look at the script, just don't seem right. I've attached a pic, be interesting what Ruger says about the original caliber.
