1B .243

Someone in another post here said, you can't have just 1. Well he was quite correct. I just bought a 1B .243 supposedly new in the box. My Hornet, which will soon become a K Hornet, and my Bee felt lonely.

I'm very much looking forward to this rifle probably with a Leupold 4X12 .

Need a picture of that pretty thing when it arrives. A 4-12x variable should give great performance in both deer/varmint applications. Congratulations!

Ngashooter, this will become a varmint/predator shooter. I'm looking forward to the 26" barrel performance compared to my 22" M 70.

I have to figure out how to get a picture on this site.

Turns out my No.1 is a 1V not a B, still looking forward to shooting it.

NOOB to site, just got my first No.1, .243. How do I determine whether it's an A or AB, a Lite Sporter or?: Can SN# provide clue to year of manuf. & details?
Would appreciate any guidance you can provide.

I'm a big No 1 fan. The V model comes with a heavy varmint barrel which I just got in 243. I also have a B model in 30-06 which has a standard 26 inch barrel. I think the A models have shorter/lighter barrels from what I've seen. My impression is the letter's determine type of barrel/stock/sites they have but I'm far from an expert on them.

Only Ruger can tell you what your rifle left the factory as, based on the serial number. The SN is not a fool-proof way to determine date of manufacture, since Ruger is/was notorious for not using receivers in sequence of SN.

Your 243 (if original) is one of these:

1A 22" light barrel with sights, Alex Henry forearm
1B 26" medium weight barrel, no sights, semi-beavertail forearm
1V (rare unless one of the 2016 production with 26" barrels) 24" heavy barrel
1RSI 20" light barrel with mannlicher fore-end and sights
1AB (also rare) 22" light barrel, no sights, semi-beavertail forearm

If it's a non-prefix serial number gun (1967-69), then there are lots of configuration possibilities.
