The No. 1 is going out of production

I've heard from a number of sources confirming Lipsey's sent an email stating the Number One is no longer going to be made. What many of us have been concerned about is apparently happening. Sad day, we are losing a wonderful, classy rifle.

Yup, but not a surprise. The remaining fans of them wanted them to be more and more Rolls Royce level fit and finish with high grade fancy wood yet only wanted to pay Chevy prices. I have a spectrum of them to cover me for anything on the planet. Might have gotten more and will certainly look at any I see on the racks. Strange part...won't even be bothered by plain wood.
Of course all hose selling them will now jam up prices an consider them "collectable. *roll eyes*

Ruger has to stay profitable... Most do not want a single shot rifle at No. 1 prices.

Yup. With the big market being more focused on semi-autos and the "tactical" clothesline models, the more classically styled models just yield to the more popular. Just the cycle. In another generation, the current stuff will be pushed aide for the next fashionable stuff.

Ruger No. 1

I am fascinated by that gun. All I do is shoot at the range and my rifles are bolt action, but I still shoot load one to save my brass.
I am kind of shocked at the prices for these rifles , especially the smaller varmint calibers.
But, I am going to keep looking for either a 223 or a 22-250.

The No 1 has been on my radar for many, many years but I never got around to getting one. This announcement coincided with a new 30-06 Medium Sporter I found for $859. I decided it was now or never so I bought it. I'll pick it up next week.

Ahggggggggg.

I totally understand Ruger's need to remain profitable but I still hate to see that model fade away. It's a fantastic design.

It's the times themselves that made it happen. Go to shops and shows and see what is selling. Look at manufacturers' catalogs and see what's being made. The time has simply run its course for the single shot rifle just as it did for other past designs and models.

Ugh. More bad news about Ruger. I still haven't forgot about the Red Label 20 ga they said they were going to bring back but stopped a couple of years ago. Glad I got the 2016 No. 1 RSI .308 while I did.

Number 1s have always been a niche rifle, because they aren't great for anything. They aren't accurate enough to be considered a target rifle and the single shot is not the first option for most hunters. While you never want a follow up shot, sometimes its needed and the single shot is not ideal for this. Now is when someone usually says "I can reload as fast as you can cycle a bolt".......well good for you, maybe YOU can, but most can't nor do they care to try.

Basically you have Number 1s because you love them or because you like the novelty of them. Either way is not reason enough for the model to continue. The last few years have just been some obscure calibers for collectors to add because they didn't have one in that caliber or configuration. That won't keep a model alive long either

If not for Lipsey's the rifle would be long gone and good for them for keeping it around as long as they have. But you know they see the writing on the wall as well
