Question What do I have? Is it worth it?

I recently purchased R No.1 in 257 Roberts from Cabela's Library. There posting said it was cut down and were asking $1,000.

After I saw the rifle, I felt their description was not as accurate as I hoped. Ultimately I placed the rifle on Layaway for a sale price of $800. What do I have? Is it worth it?

Can anyone explain why the forearm sling screw inserts into a barrel band? Never seen one like this before. While the caliber marking seems correct, the barrel markings appear to show the barrel has been removed then replaced. The actual barrel length is 25". I checked another new No.1 with a 26" and it actually measures 25" match the 257. Any comments? I can still return it I get buyers remorse.

You have a 1B that has been altered. The barrel band is not factory, and I can't imagine why anyone would have done that to the rifle.
Also, the stock has been shortened.

As for the barrel length, I'm sure it's 26" just as Ruger advertises and produces them. Many people seem to measure No. 1 barrels from the front of the receiver, instead of correctly, from the breechface (i.e. true end of the barrel).

If you don't feel good about it and can return it do so. Before you lay down that much money for a rifle do the research and make sure it is what you want and what they say it is is what they are selling.
