Can anyone tell me if Ruger ever made the No. 1 in 7mm-08?
My brother has 2 No. 1's and I've decided that I want one. I've been looking at calibers and decided that a 7mm-08 is the caliber I want. It will be used to hunt whitetails in Missouri. I already have a .30-06 of another brand.
If Ruger never made the No. 1 in 7mm-08, I will probably get the 7X57 which is darn close to the 7mm-08.
Thanks,
Steve

There were some made but very few. I believe they were stainless with the grey laminate stock. Last i recall seeing one it was tagged around the $1000 mark.
I'd say go for the 7x57, a great cartridge. A #1RSI in that chambering is one #1 I gotta get eventually. 4 here now and 2 on order. They're simply a perfect rifle for me and my tastes. they just have class written all over 'em.
Good luck when you get your! You'll love it!

Thanks, Steve | I talked to two different Ruger engineers about this same setup and was informed it was talked about but never produced. Several gunsmiths have turned down rebarreling one of my No. 1's as being to much work? I shoot a Ruger Frontier in this caliber and love it.

| Not all employees, even the engineers know all that goes out the door. Having seen 'em for sale in the past, I can attest to the fact that some were in fact produced. RugerForum.com :: View topic - #1 in 7mm08 |

| Thanks for the Input
I appreciate the advice and thoughts.
I will probably look for the 7X57 like my brother has. I don't think I'm loosing that much for a midwest whitetail cartridge in moving from one to the other.
I do want a gun that will be used and not just "eye candy."
Thanks,
Steve

I have one! It is no longer being chambered. Stainless with laminated stocks as previously described. I wouldn't take $1000 for it. I have it topped with a Shepard 310-P2 3x10x40 scope. Super combination. 7mm-08 is great! Talk about your all around rifle. As with all of the No. 1's, it is a beautiful piece of functioning art. I suppose the reason Ruger no longer chambers the No. 1 in 7mm-08, is that they wouldn't sell as many guns. This one does it all! Low recoil (who really likes recoil?) accuracy, and a wide range of bullet selection.
I do wish they would chamber the No. 1 in 7mm-08 again. I'd like another one or three for my kids.

Ruger made two #1s in 7mm-08 -- the previously mentioned K1B ((SS/laminate B model) and a very small run -- 50?-- of #1As. I have one of each.
The K!A by the way has a very high gloss ss finish much like the old bumper chrome. Way too flashy for hunting. I had mine whacked back to a satin finish and the hell with the resale value. It shoots 120 Nosler BTs very accurately and they are devastating on game.

The 7x57 was Jack O'Connors second favorite cartridge. Great caliber and sweet shooter. I don't think you will have any problems with the big bucks in the mid-west with it.

I have an RSI in 7x57 and am completely happy with it. The 7x57 is a classic calibre with a wonderful track record and history. Ballistically, the 7mm-08 and 7x57 are pretty much twins and you won't miss out on anything in opting for the 7x57.

With that said, I don't think my 7x57 gives up much to any modern cartridge.

Hand-loading brings out the best and narrows the difference, especially in a strong action like the No 1.

Ruger?
The 7x57 in a blued 1A is missing from your current catalog... and those spiffy express sights on the Boddington model would be a nice improvement, as would a run of S1L s.
Of course, I'm not against seeing the 7mm-08 and 280 Rem. return either... and I'm still waiting on a 1S in 7x64 Brenneke. (I know... "send a check for 250 guns..." same thing you told me 20 years ago).
