Ruger 1-A in 6.5x55 Swede

A few years ago, I managed to latch onto a 1-A, stainless (w/beautiful walnut) in 6.5x55 Swede.
The rifle has been a real joy to shoot and hunt with. Where I hunt, 150 yds. is a long shot, so I've been very pleased with the "old style" Hornady 160 gr. RN bullets. Their performance on whitetails is AWSOME!
I was just curious if anyone else out there managed to luck into one of these rifles and what they're shooting in them (jacketed, cast, factory???) and their results in the field/range.
Mine is also a lot of fun with cast bullets.
What say ya'll?

I have a couple of the 6.5x55 walnut/stainless number ones. My son used one last year, here is how it worked for him.

Here is the other one, prior to scope mounting. Both rifles are set up exactly alike, as a matching pair. I have not had the chance to use this one yet, but my son reports the deer he shot went down so fast at first he thought he had missed it. Hornady Custom 140 gr. factory load.

OUTSTANDING Results! Mine has only taken a couple of "meat" does, but the 160 gr. Hornady's didn't damage much of that good venison!
Just curious, but is that a Nikon on your son's rifle? Looks a lot like the setup on mine.
The figure in the buttstock of the 2nd photo is really NICE - mine has some character, but that is better. Nice piece of walnut!
Do you reload or have you tried any cast bullets in your rifles? Mine does about equally well with either.

They are Redfield scopes, but we really like them and they have sufficient eye relief on the number one. I do not reload as I shoot no particular rifle or caliber enough to justify it. Wish I could be more help.....

6.5x55 is used in Scandanavia to hunt moose. It is very accurate and pentration is deep with great sectional density in light recoil rounds.

021,
Thanks for the response(s).
I too would like to hear from anyone else out there with a #1A in 6.5x55 - but it would appear that the "remaining" 497 that were made are either safe queens OR their owners aren't members here!
How-some-ever, me and mine will be in the woods next month!

I think you mean the other 260, as there were only 263 made. I don't think this one will get a lot of play, as this gun, according to Lipsey's own literature, was the most sought after of their K1A's, and most, but not all of course, remain hidden away in the original box, in someone's collection.

Thanks for the correction.
My mistake; you're right - but it's too bad there aren't more out there because this is one sweet combination!
In light of your added information, I shall enjoy mine all the more!

I have one of these rifles. I have been deer hunting with it for the last few years. I load 140 Nosler Partitions. It will put two shots in one hole at 100 yards. The third shot is always about an inch or so out.

Ruger No. 1A 6.5x55 mm

I have a 2011 Ruger 1A in 6.5x55. It has taken a
whitetail deer three years in a row. All one shot kills.
I use Nosler 140 gr Partition bullets in front of RL22 powder.
Norma cases.
The rifle is mounted with a West German Zeiss 4x scope. It's a joy to
carry and shoot.
